Jet Blue's Carry on size is 22 X 14 X 9. I bought my son a carry on for Christmas and as part our trip reveal. The product description stated it was 20 X 14 X 9. Today I started packing and it appears to measure 22x 15.25x 9.5. Will Jet Blue make me check this for being just a little over?

My son was so disappointed that he may not be able to bring his new bag. I don't mind checking at the gate but I just don't want to pay $25 each way for a carry on size bag. If they are going to make me check and pay a fee I'd rather pack a full size suitcase and not pack so light! Any thoughts? We don't fly very often so I'm not sure how strict airlines are about these things.

Also the box got tossed out during Christmas so I can't return it for something smaller either.

You should be fine. You're talking an inch and a half inch. No one will give it a 2nd look.

Mine is an inch larger and gets poofy when packed. Never had an issue on 20 plus flights. It does fit snug in the overhead so I am sure not to over pack it.

Is it likely it will pass as a carryon? Yes.
Is there a possibility it won't pass as a carryon? Yes, absolutely. Jetblue (and other airlines) have sizer bins by the ticketing area as well as by each departure gate. The sizer bins have areas for overhead items (the 22x14x9) in this instance, as well as areas for the personal item (many people don't realize there are maximum dimension limits for this as well). I flew a PVD-MCO flight on October 28 seated next to a very irate woman who was mad because they made her check her wheeled carryon (which she flies with all the time, fits neatly in the overhead, and didn't even get a second glance from the Southwest people on her MCO-PVD flight earlier in the week; yes, I got an earful).
So, one never knows when the gate agents may crack down on carryon bag size. When nobody's looking, you may want to pop it into a bag sizer at the ticketing side to see if it could give you issues in the future.
