Carry on items?

Definitely. I take those items (or ones similar to them) in my carry on every trip. They go through security just fine. You may be asked to power them up - I haven't been for quite some time, though.

Just make sure the laptop is easy to access. I believe they will ask you to take it out of the bag when it goes through the security scanner.

My daughter forgot to take her lap top out which lead to more scanning. Luckily we were early for our flight.

For laptops, you need to take them out of the bag unless you have a TSA approved laptop bag.

One of the few times i've had a problem with TSA revolved around my TSA approved laptop bag. At one small airport, I opened up the laptop bag so that it folded in half and laid it down on the conveyor belt like I always did when going through security. One of the TSA agents at the conveyor belt picked up my bag and zipped it back up! Of course, that made me have to stop, wait and have the bag go through another screening with their supervisor since I had a laptop in the bag. He was explaining what I needed to do for laptops, of which I kept saying "uh huh" in response. At the end of his instruction (which I already knew), I told him that I did follow their rules and unzipped the bag, however the agent over there (pointing to the agent) zipped it back up! The supervisor was visibly in shock and apologized profusely. After he finished with me, I watched him go over to the agent that had zipped up the bag and instructed her on the spot about TSA approved bags and not to zip them back up!

Yep she just forgot. My dh took one out and she just forgot. Luckily we were in Hartford and it wasn't crowded. This was in April, hopefully she remembers next April!

I usually travel with my laptop, too. One time at MCO I just stopped in my tracks after going through security. I had forgotten to take it out of the bag and it went through without anyone saying a word. Made me wonder how many things go through without being noticed.

Are you sure you want to know what the Thousands Standing Around miss?

http://www.latimes.com/opinion/topo...-airport-security-charade-20150608-story.html

"A report leaked out of the Transportation Security Administration reveals that a team of investigators from the Department of Homeland Security managed to sneak weapons and fake bombs past airport screeners in 95% of their attempts to beat the system. That means what many of us suspected all along has now been confirmed. All those expensive body and baggage scanning machines, all that intrusive rummaging through luggage, all those intimate pat-downs of little kids and grannies, all those nail clippers confiscated, all those bottles of liquids seized, all those shoes and belts taken off, all those laptops pulled out and all those thousands of frustrating hours wasted in line have been mostly for show."

Who says it wasn't noticed?

ETA: I've had multiple flights where I've left my 311 bag in my carryon (no, I don't have Pre check). No added security.
