Thankfully Flybe have confirmed that they will honour Virgin's economy allowance as we have booked a through ticket.

As I am taking the laptop, trying to figure out everyone's hand-luggage.
What do you carry? Do your kids have their own bag/carry on with DS, PSP etc

On the subject of the laptop I am wondering about changing our case for a laptop backpack. As this would allow camera, ipod and other stuff to be loaded. Any suggestions for an inexpensive backpack?

Can you tell it has been a while since we have flown :rolleyes1

We just bought a laptop backpack for this very reason, after recommendations on the Dis.

We went with this one:
http://www.play.com/PC/PCs/4-/7963557/Swissgear-Serge-15-4-Laptop-Backpack-Grey/Product.html
It's really sturdy and has quite a few different pockets and an organiser thingy to put in little items or even travel docs I guess (although it's just a zipped pocket so those types of things may not be very secure in there). The laptop pocket is basically a sleeve in the main compartment, but it's very well padded and my 15.4" laptop fits in easily, but it's snug enough not to be josting about in there.
There's also an Ipod/ mp3 "headphone port" which is really just a small hole to feed the headphone lead through - it'll be quite handy at the airport though to not have to mess about finding the 'phones inside the bag.
Also, the colour in the photo looks really bright silver, but it's actually more towards a grey (just incase that's important to you).
Oh and if you're flying to Virgin's allowance, this bag fits just under the HxWxD requirements.

We also looked at this type, which is slightly cheaper:

This also comes in different colours.

Also, Amazon stock the Jansport Trinity Daypack, which serves as a laptop bag - it's a bit more expensive though (up to £25).

Just one more thing, I noticed in PC world/ Currys that they stock the more expensive bags (£30+), so if you want something cheaper, from what we found; buy online.

Sorry if I went into a bit of an essay there - hope it helps :)

We too take our laptops, cameras etc with us as carry on. I have a LowePro laptop/camera back pack called a Lowepro compuDay Pack. The back section is for the laptop and then there is a seperate section at the bottom for the DSLR and a couple of lenses, then a section of the bag at the top for other items (we usually fit a few books, the sat nav and all the cables for the electrical items in there too.)
I got this bag as it was recommended by a few other dissers and I am glad we got it. Here is a link for one on ebay so you can see what it is like, my one is all black and grey though:

Hi Reid :)

My Dh bought his laptop rucksack from Dell last year, it's great, has loads of sections and wee holes for your earphones as well, it was a perfect size for hand luggege and he even had room for a spare t-shirt and shorts in the bad as well :thumbsup2

we got a laptop backpack from costco and its great

flybe have to honor virgins allowanaces if its all booked as a through ticket, we had aa flights last year booked through virgin and we had way more luggage than anyone else and didnt have to pay for the checked bags as we had virgin tickets

We started off before laptops Camera bag, DW handbag, DS small backpack.

Then it turned to Camera bag, DW laptop bag, DS larger backpack

last trip Camera bag, 2 laptop bags

Next trip possibly all 3 of us taking laptop bags, unless I get a netbook that will fit in my camera bag.

Hiya Reid,
My 3 kids always carry their own backpack with their DS's, games comics and any sweeties/drinks they buy at the gate.
