We are going to have a party of 8 on our next cruise and we were considering doing one of the horse-drawn carriage tours. Are some of the operators better or worse than others (any we should avoid)? Also about how much are these?

Thanks.

We did this back in '99. We walked off of the dock and ran into the horse drawn carrage area so we decided to take the "tour" of the town in one of them. Ooops, that was our second mistake in Nassau (the first was getting off of the ship). The "tour" was a race to see just how fast the driver could get back to the dock to pick up the next suckers...er...I mean tourist dollars.

We couldn't hear the driver very well. And when we could hear him we couldn't understand him. He spent most of the time yelling to friends on the street or yelling at other trafic to get the $*% out of his way.

Once back at the "stables" his cohorts in fraud insisted on taking our picture with our camera and wouldn't give it back untill we gave them a significant tip. No, we didn't offer our camera to them, they took it from us as we were exiting the carriage.

It could be a very fun experience if you can hook up with someone reputable ahead of time and arrange for the tour. The city has a lot of interesting landmarks.

I don't think there is a reputable carriage operator. None of the horses look well. I wouldn't give business to the Nassau carriage operators.

We did it in November. We had the same experience as jrabbit. I felt so sorry for the poor horse! :guilty:

I was thankful to still be alive when we got off hat "ride"!! We were up on the sidewalk going around corners, cars whizzing rigth up behind and next to us and we didn't see anything much! Save your money, stay on the ship and enjoy it there or go to Atlantis....

We (3) also did this back in November, we had a very nice driver (spoke clearly) and our horse looked well fed. But, I would not do it again. It does go by very fast and is costly (I think we paid $45).

Right across the street from the straw market is a Hagan-Das ice cream store, if you go up the side street to the next block, on the right is a Pirate Museum (it is a purple building). We enjoyed this very much, it is not a large museum but very informative and displayed. I think it was $12 for an adult and $6 for a child.

Thanks all! It is now the walking tour for me!
