Carpet Cleaning Question

How often do you steam clean your carpets?

And, when I steam clean the water that generally comes out is fairly dark (we have 2 dogs) and this is after vacuuming nearly every day.

Do you keep steam cleaning the same carpet until the water that comes out is clear?

I feel like I should do that but don't know if I'm doing any extra damage to the carpet fibers or the pad underneath or how much I'll spend on steam cleaning solution if I keep it up.

Lastly, do you use steam cleaning solution or is there a more budget way to get the same effect?

We have a carpet cleaning co. I dont do the cleaning my dh does. He is at a golf tournamnt and will be home this afternoon. I can have him give you an answer for that. He just cleaned a carpet on friday where a person had so much urine from their cats it was unbelieveable. But I have seen him empty the tank from cleans with no animals and the water is very black from places. So if you have certain questions pick his brain he will answer for you. Not a problem if you like. jo p.s. he has done this bus for over 30 yrs just so you know

Here is a reply, first how often are you steam cleaning? Your water will never come out clear because of the dogs dander. Your best bet is truck mounted machine only because you cant suck up all the residue left behind from the solution. If you really need budget friendly dont use very much solution and clear rinse water and the water needs to be very hot. As hot as you can get it. What kind of a steam cleaner are you using?
