If so, do you mind saying how much you received?

no I have not...but there are many variables to claims...way to many to even get an "idea"
What impact, severity, causality, loss of earnings, permanency, etc etc etc...the list goes on and on......

Sometimes you get a scar benefit. I had surgery for a broken wrist( happened at work) and got a payout for the scar.

I got paid time off, and afterwards it was decided that I had 90% loss/remaining damage, and they sent me a check for just over $10,000. I was surprised because I didn't know I was getting any kind of money at all.

I wish I'd gotten a settlement. I've had surgery once on my right wrist, 6 times on the left. The original problem was caused by my job. The lawyer couldn't get a settlement, just the balance owed to the surgeon.

I had no idea I was getting a settlement. I brought an ergonomic keyboard to work and was told that the State (I am a state employee) would have to purchase me one and I could not bring my own. That resulted in me getting sent for an EMG, which showed significant nerve damage. I had my surgery on February 9th, and complications have kept me off work until Monday, which will be 76 days. I received a call on Friday asking if I had an attorney to negotiate my settlement, and I was shocked there would be one. The call was from my workers compensation adjuster. Not sure why I would be entitled to one since they send weekly checks. Now I am curious what I am getting, he said he will not know until he receives the R&R and disability rating from my Dr.

About 8 years ago, I got about $10K for mine plus all doctor bills, etc were paid. I didn't have the surgery. I probably would have gotten more had I had the surgery.

You should probably talk to an attorney. My MIL received 25K or so from hers.

I live in California and you have to be careful. I got hurt on the job and the Dr. decalared my injury as perm. Even though I can use it. Apparently the condition is fine but could be complicated in the future. I received an unexpected check for about $1800. The state sets the limits from what I am told. My employeer also had the discretion to terminate my employment due to my injury. The insurance adjuster also harrassed me for a year to sign off the claim so I could not hit them in the future. I never did.

WOW, my husband got hurt at work and had to have surgery on his hand...he still has range of motion issues, and even had a before/after measurement performed by the physical therapist before being released and he didn't get a dime. I thought that the point of workers comp was to get you back to a working level....might not be 100% but still if you could do your previous job after surgery....etc that you were released from workers comp and you moved on.

I handle worker's comp as my company. The purpose of W/C is to return you to work. However you are compensated if the injury results in permanent damage.

Many settlements also include the employee resigning their position. the reasoning is, if you can't do the job you were hired to do then the company does not have a position for you.

Each state rates level of impairment by percent and that is how the settlements are based.

Sounds cheaper then no longer having a need for a persons position... AKA layoff

In some cases, a person can receive unemployment after not returning from worker's comp. There is no job available for the employee so the employee collects.

I have used temps while 2 employees are out over a year. When the employees return, the temps will be termed (they knew at hire) and we will be charged their unemployment.

In the end, both the employee and employer are financially hurt by a claim and it is in everyone's best interests to take steps to avoid the injuries.

In my case, i'm at full function, My payout was for the scar. It's visible and permanent. The rules vary by state as far as location, size etc.

No money here.
W/C took care of surgery and time paid for any visits/treatments, but never received any $. I am still able to do my job. Still need to have left hand done which was aproved through the same claim, but held off as Dr. wanted me to see if left hand improved after I was able to go back to using right more.

This is a dumb question, but with all the computer/cellphone/handheld games being used after work hours, how do you know that your CPS is due to work? (I work a desk job, so I'm on the computer ALL the time.)

I'm just curious - I'm not at all implying that you don't deserve the compensation (or that you didn't get it at work)...

When my carpal tunnel got bad enough to be disabling, I didn't open a claim. I didn't think it was fair to my current employer. The damage actually started when I was in the Air Force and then I am sure it was made worse by my next employer. Didn't seem fair that the last employer (and the one that had the least amount of computer work involved) should take the hit.

Its too bad I didn't do the claim though after reading all these stories. One of my incisions did not adhere and I have a pretty broad scar on that hand.

I also had to do cubital tunnel surgery on both arms. On the right arm the incision failed to close properly and I have a really broad scar. That one does bother me. Cubital tunnel is also typically job related.

I do not know if it was caused by work or not. I purchased a ergonomic keyboard and when I brought it to work, they told me I could only use one that was purchased by the employer. I offered to pay for it, but was told the employer must purchase it. A few days later I was told that I would need to see a Dr. to get the ergonomic keyboard, to get a script. Next thing I know, I am sent to a Dr. who diagnosed CTS. It was never my initial intention to receive workers compensation, I only needed the keyboard. The rest came at the direction of the employer, and not myself.
