Hey Guys, get this. I had made a quik ressie for SS for 6/1-6/5 last week. At work and didn't have time to give requests. Called back today to give requests and they said I had requested Carousel. I told her that I know I didn't make any requests and if I did I would have NEVER requested Carousel. She was very nice and took my request for Congress Park, but it looks like if you make no requests they are putting you in Carousel. :scared1:

As far as I know, there are no guaranteed location booking categories at SSR, so therefor, no default category. Any request is certainly not guaranteed, you could still wind up in Carousel if there aren't any rooms available in Congress Park on the day you check-in.

I made a "3 day ahead" reservation for DSis, just a single night, and they were put in Springs and loved it. I thought that Carousel was where they would have ended up, but no.

Bobbi:goodvibes

Are you saying that you think the person at MS who took your reservation took it upon themself to put down Carousel as your preference because you did not designate a preference yourself?

If so, I would really hope this was not the case.

Chuck, What I was trying to say is I never requested Carousel. When I called back to make my requests, someone had put Carousel in the request section. It must have been the cast member who did my original reservation. We all know this is the least desirable area and the hardest to fill. That said, I know rooms aren't guaranteed and have never had any trouble getting what I want at check in by working with the cast member at the front desk. The cast members are wonderful and I consider them saints for putting up with some of the things they have to.

I understand what you were saying, but what I don't understand is the advantage to DVC or the CM in adding an unsolicited request location request at SSR, since those requests are not guaranteed by booking categories.

In otherwords, why would it possibly matter to DVC if a request had been made at all? Why would the CM do it in the first place?

Prior to the no smoking policy I received conformations that said that we requested a smoking room. The thing is, we don't smoke and hadn't made any requests.

Same here, the last time we stayed at OKW, it was stated that I requested a lock off, which I had not. I took it because it did not matter nor did it cost extra points, but I had not requested it.

Lock-off is a specific guaranteed booking type. At OKW, if you don't request a preference when reserving a two bedroom unit, normally they will give a dedicated. If the dedicated units are all booked, then they start giving the lock-offs. These do need to be tracked as a category, because a lock-off takes a one bedroom and studio out of the available inventory.

Dedicated or lock-off will almost always show on OKW 2 bedroom confirmations, whether you actually state a preference at time of booking or not, because of this inventory control.

Staying at SSR for the first time in December. What's so bad aboot the Carousel section??

The only negative for me is that it does not have it's own pool like the other sections and is a fair distance from any other pool. :confused3

Now that we don't spend as much time in the parks as we used to and more time at the pools this is a real negative.

It is also the furthest section from everything. Downtown Disney and food areas. This does not bother me but others are turned off by it. I can understand if you have small children that it can be a real pain having to truck them all back and forth every time you need something. Me, I need the walk.

It always seems that no matter what I request, I always get the opposite. My last 3 trips: SSR (my home resort) 2/06--requested DTD View and Balcony got ground floor and no DTD View(I know this happens alot) ; 2/07 WLV requested ground floor room closest to lobby, got this eventually after fighting for it. (Was originally given a 3rd floor room, somewhere remote); 2/08 AKV, requested an inside (I think Arusha) SV, got a different SV. After checking into these rooms they turn out to be alright but it is very frustrating. I can't understand why the requests are never met,:confused3 and at WLV the room I requested did turn out to be available, it should have been given to me to begin with. I should be brave this year and request the opposite of what I want, that might be the only way to get what I really want.:worried:

Newbie here. Could I ask what is the difference between a "lock-off" and a "dedicated"? I have seen reference to these on the boards, but have not found any information to explain what exactly is the difference. TIA

A two bedroom lock-off is a studio and one bedroom unit with a connecting door. This unit will have two outside entrances, and a kitchenette in the studio. At most resorts (except OKW) lock-offs will have a queen bed and double sleeper sofa in the second bedroom. OKW has two queen beds in all studios, thus also all the 2nd bedrooms.

A two bedroom dedicated is a "real" two bedroom unit. It has one outside entrance, no kitchenette in the second bedroom, but normally additional closet space. Most dedicated two bedrooms have two beds in the 2nd bedroom. A few dedicated units (at either BCV or BWV, I can't remember which) will still have the bed/sleeper sofa configuration in the 2nd bedroom, my understanding is this is due to a design flaw and they didn't leave enough room in some units for two real beds in the 2nd bedroom.

JPS I think what people don't like is that it's so far from everything. My Husband and I are staying at SSR for the first time this Nov/Dec and we did not make any room requests either. We figure if we get the Carousel section we'll have a farther walk but I think it will be a quiet area. Neither my Husband nor myself have any trouble walking so we're not concerned about the distance.

Ask me when I get back if I still feel that way :rotfl2:

For us it doesn't seem to matter where we request, they just never seem to put us where we request. I started to get very upset, but then I realized it really doesn't matter where they put us, we are in Disney World!!! So now we just go with the flow!!!
