DP and I were watching a video that I made from last years trip to WDW including, Hall of Presidents, The Great Movie Ride, and The Haunted Mansion. I got to thinking out loud and said, "why didn't I record the Carousel of Progress"? DP said that there was an announcement made prior to the 'ride' that any photography or video was prohibited....although I don't remember this announcement. I must say that I do not video with any flash, nor do I take pictures with flash where it is prohibited (which is why half of my HM video is just a black screen with music, lol). I figured that CoP was bright enough to record and get a decent video, but DP keeps telling me it is 'illegal'. Can anyone who has been there recently or just remember some sort of announcement like this? Thanks in advance!

Yes I do remember that they make that announcement but I wonder why? especially when you consider that you are allowed to video some of the other shows like you mentioned.

Anyone know why they prohibit it on CoP?

I know when we were down there (7/17-7/29) there was an announcement of no flash photography or videotaping (or maybe it was just photography). But (shhh don't tell anyone) my fiance took pictures (no flash) this trip and my dad videotaped it on one of our previous trips.

Anyway it could be that it is copyrighted. I know in Monsters Inc Laugh Floor you cannot videotape (and maybe photograph) it because it is copyrighted. I just learned that this trip because someone was trying to tape it and they told him he couldn't.

Let's hope the the Disney Cops don't come arrest me now for pictures and a video of COP.

They consistently say that no video recording is permitted, but they've been inconsistent on still photography. Usually they say no flash photography, but sometimes they just say no photography at all. I've shot stills on it without flash a few times when the announcement was made requesting no flash photography. Some have reported being asked not to shoot stills regardless of which announcement was made, but those have been the minority. I think the real truth is that no video recording is allowed and that the prohibition against flash photography is just in place because it would annoy other guests -- I don't think Disney really cares whether anyone shoots stills without flash. I think some of the cast members get it wrong -- but if they said no photography at all, I'd just try again later.

I am pretty sure this has to do with the actors and actresses who perform the voices for the show. They are contracted and receive royalty payments, I am pretty sure, plus, the show is copyrighted, as well.

Think about the shows that prohibit video recording, Ellen's Energy Adventure, Monster's Inc. Laugh Floor, (formerly) Cranium Command, these were all attractions that utilized actors who were members of the screen actors guild, and they are entitled to payment for each airing. (Similar to the FBI warning prior to a DVD or VHS movie.) I am no lawyer, but I am pretty sure that is accurate.

The reason cast members do not usually enforce this policy is that the disclaimer (announcement) is enough for Disney to cover themselves legally should someone record the shows and illegally bootleg and sell them against U.S. copyright laws. This puts the monkey on the guest's back, for if they get caught, they were legally warned it was unlawful to record and share said information. Thus, Disney performed their due diligence. Kind of like when you go bungee jumping. You have to sign a waiver that says if you die, it's not the company's fault because they warned you it is a possibility you could die. If it happens, the monkey's on you because they warned you. Same difference. Neither the performers, screen actors guild, or guest can sue, as Disney read the legal disclaimer prior to the show beginning. That got the monkey off their back.

So if I were to record video on attractions at WDW, is there a list of attractions that video taping is not allowed?
