It's nice having friends "in the box". We've been through marriages, divorces, deaths, births, teenage angst, and everything in between.
When DH's mom died the group rallied around us and chipped in for gift cards for our travels back to Georgia. DH was amazed at the outpouring of love from "strangers". But they are strangers to me, they are my peeps. And we are forever grateful for all they did for us.
When one of the girls son's was born deaf we rallied and helped chip in to cover the cost of hearing aids because insurance wouldn't pay for them.
Everyone associated with the DIS that I know IRL, I met here first. Lisa lives 2 towns over from me, I never would have known her if it weren't for the DIS. I had never met Nancy in person until 2 summers ago, we had been BFF's for 4 years at that point. I roll up into her driveway for the first time with 4 kids, a DH, a 20 foot trailer and a busted window. We had the window delivered to her house and installed. That was, I think, day 2 of us knowing each other face to face.
Some have come, some have gone but we are all here for each other. It took me 37 years to have girlfriends, even if they are imaginary.

And I wouldn't trade any of them for anything!!
And yes we do have cell numbers, in fact most of us have a DIS emergency contact.
Which reminds me, I need to email Queenie, I haven't seen her for a while now.
