Caroline Please check in!!

Glad to hear eveyone is doing okay. The pictures I saw last night were just awful! Hope it's a quiet weather day today.

The weather is simply gorgeous here! I'm sooooo glad mother nature got this out of her system now, since we are camping for two nights this weekend in little no-stake tents. :scared1:

So thankful that everyone is okay. This is the first time that we have had any kind of tornado threat in my area. I was really nervous and kept the weather on till we had to leave and then put it back on when we came home. The pictures of the damage done in the Springfield area are heartwrenching. Hopefully mother nature is done with this type of weather.

Thanks, Christy, and other folks who were concerned. We're all ok -- spent time in the basement listening to the wind-up radio and watching Hoarders on Netflix (!) -- when they called for a tornado warning, but we didn't get more than lots of noisy thunder/lightning/wind/rain. Kids held up VERY well!

First of all, I want to say that I am so thankful that everyone is OK.

Next I want to say that it is so nice to see how much you all care for each other. I don't know if you are all friends IRL or if you are just acquaintances on here. Either way, I don't have any IRL friends that would be that concerned over me and I think you are a great group of people!!! It's great to see that you all even have cell numbers to check on each other!! :grouphug: to everyone from me!

It's nice having friends "in the box". We've been through marriages, divorces, deaths, births, teenage angst, and everything in between.
When DH's mom died the group rallied around us and chipped in for gift cards for our travels back to Georgia. DH was amazed at the outpouring of love from "strangers". But they are strangers to me, they are my peeps. And we are forever grateful for all they did for us.
When one of the girls son's was born deaf we rallied and helped chip in to cover the cost of hearing aids because insurance wouldn't pay for them.

Everyone associated with the DIS that I know IRL, I met here first. Lisa lives 2 towns over from me, I never would have known her if it weren't for the DIS. I had never met Nancy in person until 2 summers ago, we had been BFF's for 4 years at that point. I roll up into her driveway for the first time with 4 kids, a DH, a 20 foot trailer and a busted window. We had the window delivered to her house and installed. That was, I think, day 2 of us knowing each other face to face.

Some have come, some have gone but we are all here for each other. It took me 37 years to have girlfriends, even if they are imaginary. ;) And I wouldn't trade any of them for anything!!

And yes we do have cell numbers, in fact most of us have a DIS emergency contact.
Which reminds me, I need to email Queenie, I haven't seen her for a while now.

I must add to this....after being AWOL for over two years everyone welcome me back with open and supportive arms, helping me through the death of my DH last year!
knowing my friends are here when I need them and I for them does give a lot of comfort! and when we do get to finally meet its a great time! and Megan loves having so many more "aunties" in her life!!!

Wasn't it a scary time??? We were fortunate and were on the fringe of the storms and it never got real bad. We were watching the news and that "hook" that was the tornadoes looked like it was heading right for us so we did go to the basement for a while. I piled all the kids scrapbooks in 3 laundry baskets and we took them with us. I also took the box that holds little notes and writing from my parents, my Dad's army medals and our Disney passes. :) We also took a few other things but it is interesting what goes through your mind when you think you might lose it all and the things I chose to "save".

Weather today was GORGEOUS!!!

Nancy, we don't have tornado sirens, New England normally just isn't condusive to tornados because of all our hills.

Jeniferdwn, believe me, if something happened in SC we would expect you to check in too. Many of us have met and get together from time to time but we all met thru the boards.

We are alive!!!! My mother's neighborhood is no longer - sadly. If she lived 3 houses further, her house would be devastated.

Yesterday morning the National Guard let me go through to their house - i cried the 1/2 mile as there is not much left. Trees have been felled, houses are pretty much totalled and it reminds me of a war zone.

Our power came on today, the internet just a while ago.

My school is in the middle of the south end, another war zone, as many of you might have seen on tv. Today was the first time i saw pictures, it is overwhelming. Destruction is all around - in Springfield, where i teach, in the next town of Wilbraham - it is what you think can only happen to others, not close to you.

God did bless us, but it is hard to understand why others have to suffer so much. It may be a week before my sister, her dh and mom have power - they are welcome to continue to stay here and be comfortable. Not sure what will happen to my sister's day care - 1 day at a time. Please pray or my students, their families, residents who have lost their homes... all of them.

I have someone 's insulation in my backyard - it my have traveled far, but I hope they have the rest of their home intact.

I will keep you updated as the days go along - going out to volunteer tomorrow. Thank you all for your concern - it is very much appreciated. Hugs to you!! :grouphug: Caroline

Caroline I am so glad to hear from you!! I'm so happy mom is safe, even if her neighborhood is not. Hopefully people will rebuild.
Prayers are being said for all those affected by the storms.

Were the kids done with school?

You know if it weren't for the kids I'd be up there tomorrow to volunteer too!

Gentle hugs to the family!

Love ya Mama!

Caroline, so happy your family is safe! hoping the same for your students and friends!
Wish I could come help you all too! Is there anything you all need??
continued prayers for you and your community!

Heading back to my mom's house with my bil in a while - he told me he has to show an ID with address on it to get there- if i can, will try to get some pix of the area. If you go to masslive.com you can see coverage of the area - neighbors are truly uniting! Devastation can truly bring out the best in humanity sometimes!

caroline -- so glad to hear you are ok -- i was going to call yesterday but i didnt want to bother you - knowing you had a lot on your plate -- please know you and your family are in my thoughts and prayers and if you need ANYTHING let me know and i will be there in 40 minutes :) love ya
jennifer

Definitely, Caroline, if you need anything, please just say so.
