Carnival bans bringing bottled water and soda onboard.

Had they sold cases of water for $6, I don't know if I ever would have brought a bottle of water on in the first place. Seems like a win/win to me.

Carnival boosts their revenue and people who want water don't have to worry about lugging it on to save a couple bucks per case. $3 / 12 pack is very reasonable.

I have a DCL booked for September, RCCL booked for December and CCL booked for January so I have been reading about this rule.
I can tell you that you can still bring on canned soda and seltzer. ALSO, CCL is selling a 12 pack of water for $2.99!
I purchased 36 bottles for under $10, which is a fantastic price. I would be willing to do this on any cruise line since I always
bring a case of water and have to carry on (DCL) or purchase and put a luggage tag on it (RCCL).

If DCL starts selling bottled water for $2.99 for a 12 pack, I'm for the ban too.

I don't need bottled water, they have free water onboard.
That is so great for you! You never had to worry about brining it on or how to get it there.
Unlike you, I prefer the bottled water to carry around and even if taste the same, this is what I prefer to do.
Lucky you and now lucky me for CCL since I don't have to worry about it any longer :)
Win/win for both you and me LOL

One cruise line has introduced a room service fee and when they did it banned cruisers from taking food out of the breakfast and lunch Buffett .

I can see DCL banning alcohol coming on the ship at some point but no need on soda as it's generally free.

That was NCL but they had such an outpouring of angry guests they quickly lifted the ban on bringing food to your stateroom.

I would just like to see DCL offer adult beverage packages that are all-inclusive like RCCL, NCL, & so many others. Not just wine or beer mugs. I'd gratefully never schlep another drop of alcohol onboard.

the water onboard is just as good as bottled water. If what you like is the bottle itself, then you're hardwired and will spend what they want onboard. Refillable bottle works fine too. I do wish I was the one to think up putting filtered water in a bottle and selling it.

Problem is on some lines people abuse it some cruisers got one card and passed it around the family so then they said everyone in your stateroom should get one. Cruisers then want to get their monies worth do are drunk a lot of the time.

It's a double-edged sword. I don't spend much at all at the bars anymore with Disney because I'm so worried about a surprise bill at the end of the cruise. (Yep, happened to me once. Wasn't the end of the world but I wasn't happy.) Don't want to go back to GS constantly to check my tab. Spending my vacation constantly reconsidering things, telling myself no when I want something doesn't = fun. When I researched drink packages prior to our RCCL cruise most people said they didn't drink their monies worth even when they tried. It's too much. I'm still fine with pre-paying for the convenience. Definitely some $$ being left on the table.

RCCL stopped requiring everyone in the same stateroom to have the same package and they seem to be doing okay. At least when they restructured their packages in November 2013 that was the case. Not sure if it's changed again since. I don't think it has. Thing is, if you're sitting in a venue with friends/family you can't relax and be supplying drinks to everyone at the table/bar. You'd get busted. All the sneaking around to hand off drinks & things eats up time & energy. That's not a worthwhile thing to do either.

I'm just looking for low stress convenience. Paying per drink sticks out like a sore thumb after I've enjoyed an all-inclusive package.

As for the drunks, I met 2 couples on the Fantasy a couple years ago that were Florida residents. They were really cool people, told us they were only onboard because FLR rates + they could bring all the liquor they wanted to onboard so they wouldn't have any bar tabs. Disney's policy about bringing on as much as you like is just as likely to encourage excessive consumption when you think about it. And look at that $$ Disney left on the table! Everyone knows Disney cruises tend to be more pricy. So keep those prices above the rest + offer the packages. You'll eliminate your younger partying set for the most part right there.

Definitely. And for some of us it's not a *preference*.

the water onboard is just as good as bottled water.

To your tastebuds and to your body. Not for everyone.

When I eat the food onboard and drink the water onboard, I swell like crazy.

When I eat the food onboard and do NOT drink the ship's water, but drink SPRING water (not filtered municipal water), I do not swell.

MY body is intolerant to the ship's water. I'm so so so glad that YOUR body isn't. Be very happy for your body. Be glad you're not me. But please do not ignore the fact that there are people like me (and this is a CONSTANT conversation over on cruisecritic and to a lesser extent here, and I am not the only one by a long shot) who truly cannot drink the water on ships without very unpleasant consequences.

Yep.

I do wish I was the one to think up putting filtered water in a bottle and selling it.

Most feel that way.

Now, spring water is a different thing. Dasani and Aquafina? Don't bother. It's just local-to-the-bottling-plant water. But the ones bottled at springs? Those are different.

They haven't changed it.

And they WILL take the package away (with no refund) if they see you sharing it.

Disney's policy about bringing on as much as you like is just as likely to encourage excessive consumption when you think about it.

I agree.

A bigger statement by Carnival talks about the unmonitored drinking being a problem. And that's just what DCL causes to happen with their policy.

Yes RCCL had the all inclusive package and some cruises on the Independence of the seas just turned it into a booze cruise and drank the ship dry.

I wouldn't mind if DCL (and the other lines) sold cases of water for $15-$20 that I can buy at Publix for $3.99 on the way to the port...but they have to give more options than that nasty Evian. I'm guessing Evain must have some kind of exclusivity clause in the contract.

How do you wash the refillable bottle/cup? I'm not being a smart aleck (honest!), but am genuinely curious. Do you bring dish soap from home and wash it in the sink in your room?

Soap is soap. I've used the shampoo in the room, as well as the bath soap and washed it in the sink in my room. Or you could bring a little bottle of dish soap, if you wish. Most of the time, there's only water in that bottle - doesn't require a whole lot of washing out.

Buy the Bounty paper towels pre loaded with Dawn. Rip off as many as you'll need, fold, put in ziplock, done! :)

Shampoo is not anti bacterial like most washing up liquids. Washing up liquid is designed so that you cant taste it, if you use shampoo make sure you rinse it really well so that you can't taste it. But practices like that can spread bacteria.

Perfect! I have never heard of these, lol!

I purchased two Tervis cups on our last cruise, but didn't use them until I got home because I had no way of washing them (sorry, I won't use shampoo/body wash to wash dishes.:o). I'll be sure to bring some of these towels next time!:)
