1. First of all, as for the question of a reservation, since the seating at Carnation is SO limited, there is almost always a long and slow line to be seated. If you are a party of two standing behing three parties of six, and a table for two opens up, then they will march you right to the table, past the folks who have been waiting for an hour! When my friend and I went this past December, every time we went there, there was a line. Quite simply, there are not many tables, and the few they have are outdoors. They USED to have inside seating as well and it was a much larger overall restaurant, but they replaced the indoor seating with the Blue Ribbon Bakery and the ice cream place adjacent to it a while back. So Carnation is limited to a small number of tables - well, maybe 20 tables or so, give or take a couple, as a rough guess - in a small, not very roomy, space. Still, we always go back there - even if not with full tummies, we will go back just for dessert to sit outdoors and people watch.
2. I have had the meat loaf stack and loved it the first time. But you have to eat it when you are really hungry. Otherwise, it can get old quick! I found that the menu was limited - there are not many selections from which to choose, and yet, as I said, we always go back there. We went there three times in December and twice in September. Also, they have great strawberry ice cream there - both my friend and I agreed, and neither of us was a big strawberry ice cream fan. They have a gigantic banana split and a good Matterhorn Sundae.
