Hi everyone! We've been to Disneyland a million times but haven't tried this place. Is the food any good? I've been feeling like Blue Bayou is a bit overrated food-wise, though we love the atmosphere.

Anyone?

From what I understand, dinner at Carnation Cafe is only offered seasonally because it's all outdoor seating. I've never had dinner there myself but love their breakfast and lunch menu. I'd say if they have dinner available during your dates then it's definitely worth a try! :)

I haven't had dinner there either, but if it's anything like their breakfast, it's yum yum!! :yay:

I completely spaced out that it was outdoors! Ahhh, outdoor seating at night in this chilly weather = no go. I just want a to sit down in a nice, warm restaurant for some yummy food for dinner! (but not Blue Bayou this time!)

We really like this spot. My kids love the chicken pot pie and the loaded baked potato soup is yummy too.

The last time we were there, it closed down due to an unexpected shower. :umbrella: I can't remember if they have those outdoor heaters by the tables, like the Wine Country Trattoria.

We've eaten there for dinner! It was in Feb of 06- the Parade of Dreams started right as we were seated- it was perfect!
I had the "Meatloaf Stack"- it was delish! My boys & DH had the Baked Potato Soup- also very good!
Here's a link to the menu:

We ate there for dinner back in December. It was outdoors but with sweatshirts on, we were ok. I'm pretty sure they had heat lamps...

Anyway, the food was good! My DH who is so picky and does NOT think the food at DL is very good :sad2: , ordered the pot pie and really liked it. Shocked the heck outta me!! LOL He almost never admits anything there is worth the price, but this he liked.

The baked potato soup is heaven in a bowl....oh maw gawd....yummmmy!

Talk about a hidden gem! We'd walked by it many many times and it wasn't until I read about it here on the DIS that we gave it a shot. It was a great lunch break, tasty food and fairly reasonable prices. It's on our permanent Dland dining list now!

Mmmm, baked potato soup....

We had dinner here back in early Nov and the food was pretty good. We kind of happened onto it as we got to the parks in the late afternoon and the kids were hungry.

We'd eat there again.

It was very pretty. It was a bit cold, but the heat lamps outside worked wonderfully. We had the pot roast though, it was sooooo salty. But everything else there was good. Next Ill be trying the baked chicken for kids.

It is a good place for any age person. They have a lot to choose from. There are a few tables inside, but it is more fun to eat outside and watch everything that goes on.

I agree, it's kind of a hidden spot. But I have only had good things there! Mmmm. I recommend as one of the better places to eat. The service that I have had has been quick and friendly too. I don't want to waste all day, but I don't want to feel rushed out the door, either.

Meatloaf stack! Yum! And I don't typically like meatloaf other than my own.

We're not foodies and won't pay the prices at Blue Bayou or most of the table seating places, but we really like Carnation Cafe for dinner. The food is very tasty, and we like sitting on the patio (although maybe not in the winter. . .)

I've only eaten there once, and was trying to stick to my diet. I had the chef salad with raspberry vinaigrette, and it was awesome! It's a huge salad, so it was very satisfying.

I would definitely eat there again, especially not having to juggle a stroller and a tray of food!

It sounds delicious. I"m getting hungry hearing about the potato soup. We had breakfast there last year and it was great. The whole meal was fantastic. My kids all enjoyed it too. I will definitely make a point to check it out for lunch on our next trip.

We were a group of fifteen last year and when we ate there everyone liked it. We were looking forward to eating there this trip, too, but it is going to be closed. One of the things we enjoyed about it is that it is hidden away - a nice quiet spot to sit and enjoy your vacation time with your family! If you get a chance to go on your trip, do so!

1. First of all, as for the question of a reservation, since the seating at Carnation is SO limited, there is almost always a long and slow line to be seated. If you are a party of two standing behing three parties of six, and a table for two opens up, then they will march you right to the table, past the folks who have been waiting for an hour! When my friend and I went this past December, every time we went there, there was a line. Quite simply, there are not many tables, and the few they have are outdoors. They USED to have inside seating as well and it was a much larger overall restaurant, but they replaced the indoor seating with the Blue Ribbon Bakery and the ice cream place adjacent to it a while back. So Carnation is limited to a small number of tables - well, maybe 20 tables or so, give or take a couple, as a rough guess - in a small, not very roomy, space. Still, we always go back there - even if not with full tummies, we will go back just for dessert to sit outdoors and people watch.

2. I have had the meat loaf stack and loved it the first time. But you have to eat it when you are really hungry. Otherwise, it can get old quick! I found that the menu was limited - there are not many selections from which to choose, and yet, as I said, we always go back there. We went there three times in December and twice in September. Also, they have great strawberry ice cream there - both my friend and I agreed, and neither of us was a big strawberry ice cream fan. They have a gigantic banana split and a good Matterhorn Sundae.
