Carmax? Has anyone ever bought a car from them?

Thinking about buying a car from Carmax and was curious about peoples opinions.

I've actually bought two cars from them. I hate to negotiate prices and their listings are very comparable to what private sellers list at around here. I've also sold a few cars to them. We could've probably gotten a little more $$ listing in the newspaper, but it is much more of a hassle to do that.

I wouldn't use the CarMax financing however. Their interest rates seem very high. If you need a loan, check with a local bank or credit union or Eloan first to see what a good rate runs.

Yes I bought a car from them. I was very young and it was my first car and went in by myself..so I might have been taken a little. However, something went wrong with the car..I forget what..like two days after I bought it. I went back and threw a fit. Anyway, I wanted them to pay the whole thing and we settled each of us paying half. But I thought that was reasonable on both sides.

I think they are genuinely good. They might be a little higher then other used cars..but like I said..I like having a place that I can go and fight if somehting happens. If you buy from a private person..you have no one to go back to.

I am looking to buy another car next year and I will defiantely consider them.

Edited to add: I uaed their finacing and I agree..the next car..I am paying cash so I wont do that again! But I think that is how I got taken last time. I didn't knwo what I was doing.

Yes I have bought a couple cars from them and I am always telling my friends to go there when looking for a good used car!!!

I loved every experience with them and would go back.

I made my first purchase with them back in 1999......I still love my Rodeo after all these years!!

I have and wouldn't do it again. We bought a van from them a while ago.

One thing I liked about them, was that they gave us the chance to truly try out the vehicle before we finally decided. We originally drove a Dodge Caravan. We liked it on the lot, but once we put the kids in it, we realized it was too hard to get them in and out of. If I remember right, my DH didn't like the way the transmission shifted either, and that year of Caravan's had transmission problems.

We then tried out a Mazda MPV, and liked the layout much better. However, while we had it at home, we realized that it had been in a serious wreck. The back window didn't fit right, and when we started looking, you could tell it had been rolled! We ended up with another MPV that was in better shape, but had more miles on it. Because of the miles on it, we ended up in a bad position when we traded it.

I think Carmax might be right for people who are looking for a used car from a company that will be around for a while. But since we are normally new car people, it just wasn't right for us. We just weren't smart about what to look for in a used car. If you're a smart consumer, then it will probably be okay.
