Caribbean Beach Resort FAQ's Part II

I checked out the map and I think Trinadad south looks just right for us! I can see it has a beach but I'd like to know for certain that there are hamocks on the beach. Is this so?

Yes, every village has its own beach, and every beach has hammocks on it -- they are great to relax in!

I know that the rooms with king-size beds at CBR are preferred, but my BF says he thinks that they are all handicap accessible as well (no tub, etc.)

Is this true - are they all that way?

I've read in this thread that King Rooms are not synonymous with Preferred Rooms. The King Rooms are scattered throughout.

I can't help you on the type of bathroom in them though - we stay in one tomorrow night though!! :woohoo:

I'm going to be staying at CBR in October. I have friends who live outside Orlando who want to come see us at the hotel, eat lunch, etc. Will they be allowed to park at the hotel for half a day? What do they need to tell the parking attendant? Just that they are there for lunch?

Thanks. I can't wait to stay at CBR!

Yes, the king rooms are scattered throughout. I also cannot help on the bathroom type.

I know you can see SEE from parts of the resort. I believe if you are on the Jamaica beach looking towards OPR, you can see it. Or anywhere looking towards OPR, I think. I know I've asked this question on the FAQ page before, so the exact answer should be somewhere on these pages ... lol.

EDIT: Found it, compliments of spiceycat:

yes you can see spaceship earth from CBR - the side facing Epcot.

here is a map
http://www.wdwinfo.com/resortmaps/cbrmap.htm

the front of (you also have a clear view - no trees or shurbs in the way) - no make that facing the water - Martinique, North Trinidad and even South Trinidad - the back of (not facing the water) - Jamaica, Aruba and Barbados.
Thank you for the update! THAT will make it much easier to request something!

I believe that some king rooms are handicap accessible, but not all. Also, not all king rooms are preferred, they are just the same price. I had my honeymoon at CBR 10 years ago and we had a non-preferred king room with standard (tub) bathroom.

From allears.net:

Each room has two full-size beds, except for a few rooms with king-size beds ... A small number of rooms are designed for wheelchair guests.

"Preferred" is not synonymous with "additional charge."

At CBR, there are 3 types of rooms for which you pay an additional charge and must reserve (you can request, but everyone reserving/paying obviously gets preference).

Preferred location -- a room in one of the 6 buildings closest to Old Port Royale (reduces walking).

Water view -- a view of the lake or a village quiet pool.

King-size bed -- self-explanatory.

So as you can see, it's not accurate to call a king-size bed room a "preferred" room, since they are not all in preferred location buildings.

And not that anyone asked, but a quirk in the Disney system is that you can't pay 2 separate upcharges for a single room ... you can't pay 2 upcharges to guarantee yourself a king-size bed room in a preferred location building ... you can't pay 2 upcharges to guarantee yourself a water view room in a preferred location building ... etc.

Okay - so I misused the term preferred, but what I was really asking about was the handicapped part. I'm thinking of seeing if we can get a king size bed room when we check in. However - if the only way I can get that is to sacrifice a bathtub, then I'm not interested.

Sorry if that was confusing. :upsidedow

Thank you! I was wondering how that worked!

If we wanted to stay in a preferred location and already reserved a water-view room, should I call and make the request in advance or wait until we get there?

I had a question about mailing things.

I had wanted to mail out a bunch of postcards near the beginning of our trip. Where would I go to get these mailed??

There's a mailbox in the food court area of Old Port Royale.

Put the request in your reservation (call Disney or your travel agent) in advance.

But first, ask yourself which is more important. Which do you want to guarantee, a water view or a preferred location? Reserve/pay for that one, and request the other one. ABSOLUTELY do it in advance.:)

Just so you know, I wasn't trying to be nit-picky for the sake of being nit-picky. I'm trying to help make sure people know what they're asking for, so when it comes time for them to check-in at the resort they don't feel cheated or wronged because they expected something different than what they actually reserved or requested.

Not all king-size rooms are handicapped accessible.

As CleveRocks noted you need to decide which is more important. If you really want a preferred location then pay for a preferred location. Personally I would rather pay for a preferred location than a water view. Some of the water view rooms are very creative in how you see the water. It looks nice walking to your room but once you are in the room you usually close the drapes so you don't look like you are on exhibit.

There are four booking categories at CBR.
Standard
Water
King Bed
Preferred.

You can only pay for one and request the others.

I just booked our Dec 8th-14th stay. The king bed is definite, but I was told the building (Jamaica) and waterview will be put in as requests and can't be guaranteed. That's fine with me.........I'm just excited to go! Plus, she told me there was a pin code next to my name and it saved me over $300! Dh said "Let's pack!" :rotfl:

Great for you!! You will have a great time at CBR.
I have you to partially thank for it........your pictures are great! This will be a fun trip anyway........first time dh and I have ever taken a vacation without kids.......after 28 years! :rotfl:

I am glad I could help. You can have a great romantic vacation at CBR. Be sure to check out the hammocks on the beach at night watching Illuminations from Epcot.

Just to let you know-- mail out postcards very early. We mailed ours on our third day which was July 25th and they didn't make it up to NY until Friday! I have family in Florida and the mail gets here in like 3 days tops. Also, we sent a Coconut postcard which you pay priority mail (2-3 day service) right at CBR and it still has not arrived! So, yeah,, def mail early! :thumbsup2
