Caribbean Beach Resort FAQ's Part II

Thanks for all this info.
I'm trying to put together the finishing touches on my plans, and I'm getting sleepy!

Could someone please remind me on the best spot to watch Illuminations from CBR? I can't remember which beach was the best. Thanks!

I (personally) think they are labeled pretty well and easy to find. When you leave the parks and walk towards the busses, there are big signs that tell you which stop is yours. Resort names are also labeled on each pavillion. The only one I am not sure about is Downtown Disney. I know the pavillions are labeled, but am not sure if there is a big sign. Hope it helps

Thank you very much! I'm so excited to go to Disney with my DH - he hasn't been since he was a young child and remembers almost nothing. My DD's and I went 3 years ago, but we went with my parents and let them do all the decision making (I went along for the ride and didn't have to plan a thing!). Now I feel like it's on my shoulders to know all the answers... the DIS is helping me SO much!!!

has anyone been during Christmas? If so what kind of decorations do they put up??? And does anyone have pics?

We were at CBR over Christmas 2006, the resort was beautiful, and hearing Christmas carols on steel drums was pretty neat too!!

You just made my day! I didn't even think about hearing steel drums! And hearing Christmas carols played on them? :woohoo:

Steal drums Christmas Carols? WOW! Was just going to ask about Christmas music, but see the answer already!

Thanks!

Reserved two rooms for 6 at the CBR Thanksgiving week.
Requested connecting rooms, 1st floor, and building location near the Dining. How did I do? Is it likely I will get these requests? Did I miss anything?

Reading over this thread it looks like there is an upcharge for preferred locations... Trying to keep close to the dining, transportation, and main pool to keep the walking to bare minimum. When we stayed at CSR, it was a very long walk to the main pool and dining and the golf carts were always full to get a taxi ride.

Can someone also describe the pool depth? Is this good for adults with deep areas? The pool looks a little small from the pics and it looks like it tailors to young children.

Is this also a good resort for my older teens?
How is the resort Dining choices for breakfast?

Thanks,
Skip

I'm pretty sure I've seen it posted that there is a bus that runs around CBR. Can anyone tell me about how often that bus runs? I just need to know if they run fairly regularly, or is it just a couple of times a day.
Also is it alright to get on the bus if you're still damp from swimming?
And can I take food, (like ice cream) onto the bus to take back to my room?

There is an upcharge for preferred that is WELL worth it. You may luck out and get it anyhow but I don't know if they are filled capactiy around when you will be there but I think if you are concerned with location it is worth the money to upgrade... we were there for a week and it cost us about $130 to upgrade to preferred and it was worth every penny. Because what it comes down to is that requests are just requests... you could show up and get all 3 or show up and get none. And if you do decided to upgrade I recommend changing your request to preferred Martinique-- it was so close to everything! Old Port Royale (where the food and pool are) was so close to us in building 26 that we used their bus stop instead of the Martinique one. Also, there is transportation from every village, like I just sort of mentioned. You had separate bus stops.

As far as the pool- It was designed for all ages... a few pages back I posted pictures and the main part that has the slide and the bridge separates a smaller wading type kiddie pool from the main pool. There is also another wading type pool set off to the side. The majority of that main pool seems to cater to older crowds to me. I don't know exact depths but it was around 4 ft by the waterfall, and as you walked to the opposite edge got to around 6 ft or so (all I know is my boyfriend at 6 ft could no longer touch the bottom) before come back to 4 ft again. We are 22 and 24 and loved it.

I guess that sort of answers your question about the older teens since we are not far from teens ourselves and my boyfriend and I LOVED it. Your family may want to try the Sea Raycers... you get a voucher for 30 free minutes when you buy 60 and we only went out for about a half hour and it cost us roughly $25 so for $50 and 90 minutes that you could split between a few boats it may be a fun thing for everyone on an afternoon at the resort.

The only difference in breakfast choices that we saw that were different from our stay at All Star Movies was omlets. There were the Mickey waffles, the Adult breakfast platter and variations of it (eggs, french toast, bacon, sausage, biscuit) and then all these different kind of omlets... plus like bagels, muffins, and fruit and such. We really disliked the lunch we had at CBR but ate breakfast there every single morning.

In any case, hope that helps!

There is an internal shuttle. However, we never used it until our last day. I don't know what the rules are but there were people with food and people with bathing suits on it when we rode. We had to get from OPR to Barbados and it was the longest we waited for any bus the whole week. We were both happy to have not had to use this service but again, we only used it once so it could be a fluke.
Wish I could be more helpful!

Yes there is a bus that runs internally - I have never used it though.

You may like to know I have put some pictures in a little mini book on my blog showingt he sheer beauty of the resort
(We have been blessed to stay there so many times - it really is a tropical haven in the midst of the bustle)

Newbie here.

It has always been my dream to stay at CBR, and this time we are! It's getting sooooo close! :woohoo:

This thread has really taught me a lot and got me even more excited!

The dining is at Old Port Royale, the area that also has the main pool, shops, outdoor bar, etc. CBR has 33 buildings. The 6 buildings closest to OPR are called "preferred location" buildings, and cost $15-$26 extra per night (depending on season). If you merely request a room close to OPR, your odds are pretty low of getting it, as everyone who has reserved/paid for it is in line ahead of you, of course.

CBR has 6 villages, and each has its own bus stop, as does OPR. There fore, there's no such thing as one village that's any closer to a bus stop than any other village.

I called to change to a "Preferred" Room and the CSR said there was no availability :sad1: She recommended I check back occassionally to see if there were any cancellations. Is this likely to happen?

What should I request as a Plan B? My daughter has asthma so I would like to limit the walking, or running as the case may be. How far is the walk from Jamaica and Aruba to the dining and pool areas? If it's a haul and it rains can I drive over to the dining and park there?

How do the different areas compare as far as the beach areas, theming, and quiet pools. I've been to the carribean so I have a real taste of what a tropical paradise is.

Also, does a Sunday arrival vs a Monday arrival differ any for getting a nearby building preference?

All the rooms are exactly the same as far as theming. You can take a look at my pictures of CBR on my website. I have photos of the rooms, quiet pools, etc.

It is not a bad walk from Jamaica or Aruba but you could always drive over if you like.

Safety,
How much parking is available at OPR?
Is the walk to OPR dining from the out buildings in Martinique 24 and Trinidad 32,33 same as Jamaica 45,44 and Aruba 51,52?

Also, how big is the waterslide at the main pool? Is it open or does it have enclosed tunnels?

What is the reason for the main pool shutdown in January 2008? Is the pool in need of repair.

There is quite a bit of parking at OPR. I think the walk from Aruba is further than the walk from Trinidad North, or at least it seemed that way to me.

The waterslide at the main pool is not that large. It is open. I have pictures of it on my website.

No details have been released on what they are doing with the pool in 2008. The pool looks fine to me but knowing Disney I am sure they are going to make it very nice. Just keep checking the first post of the FAQ for details as they become available.

Just changed from POP to CBR thanks to Disney Visa Code. The resort looks beautiful. The tropical theme will really complete our vacation coming from Ohio in December! I really look forward to the Christmas decorations:cheer2:

Here's something that might be a weird question... there are a couple of addresses at the beginning of the thread, and I was wondering what one to use for Mapquesting purposes, since we are driving.
