Caribbean Beach Resort FAQ's Part II

I am staying at CBR from 5/1-5/8 and requested to be in the Aruba or Jamica buildings (they had no preferred rooms available for my discount code available). Is it faster to catch the internal bus or to walk over the bridge to Port Royale? It's just my 3 year old and I going on this vacation and want the easiest route possible to get to the main pool.

I'd take the bridge.

Like the others said, take the bridge -- you're 3-yr-old will love the walk over the bridge and the path through the island:

It's really a quick walk over -- you will LOVE CBR!!

Once you see the layout, you'll agree that taking the bridge is a no-brainer rather than the internal bus.

However, be prepared to have a room anywhere in the resort, not just Jamaica or Aruba. A request is only a request. If you get assigned a room in Trinidad South, for example, you might choose the internal shuttle, as the walk from Trinidad South to Old Port Royale is about one-half mile.

We have ressies for 5/5 - 5/10, for a water view room. Does this mean it is preferred? How will I know what building I will be in -- can I find out before we get there?

It means you will have a view of the lake or a pool view. It does not mean it is a preferred building. They don't assign your room until you get there so you won't be able to find out in advance. You can put in a request for a particular building and they will note it on your reservation, but it is not guaranteed.

We will be staying at CBR December 1-9 of this year. We stayed here for our honeymoon in October 2006 and loved the resort! We were trying to stay at Coronado Springs for somewhere different, but they were booked. We didn't hesitate on asking for Caribbean Beach since it was absolutely beautiful. Have they done anything to the resort since last October, and how are the Christmas decorations here?

DISNEY'S CARIBBEAN BEACH RESORT

Is this still true? a REP at Dreams Unlimited said there are only double beds (no kings) and no rollaways anymore.

Thanks for all the great info! We're headed here in late July/early August, with four teens & 20s sons in tow. Our first magical trip to WDW was in 1990, stayed at CBR with three little boys. Been back to WDW to a cabin at FW twice, and last time at POR. So, this trip will bring us full circle back where we first experienced the magic, with that last "baby", now 15!

I'm looking forward to the resort from a whole different perspective this time around. I'm headed straight to one of those hammocks on the beach! I have no recollection of those, I was definitely in the "theme-park commanado mode" that first time, determined to see and do as much as possible.

Funny how so many of the special requests matter so much less this time! With guys used to walking huge college campuses, I can't see that the location anywhere in CBR will be problematic. I'd love connecting rooms for "togetherness", but even that isn't essential--a little "apartness" might even be a good thing. :)

Gotta get through these last weeks of the school year, and then I can really get into fine tuning our plans, in a flexible sort of way! This thread has a great tone--CBR posters are a very inteligent, laid-back, crowd! Glad to find you!

Heading back to CBR for a short stay (I wish it could be longer) in May 9th through the 11th. It has been about 10 or 11 years since my wife and I stayed there, and this will be the first for DD 5 and DD 3 so we are very excited. Since this is only a short stay of 2 Nights we only booked a standard room, but I would still like to make a decent room request when we get there.

We should be arriving at the Resort at about 9:00 AM on the 9th so I would hope there would be some decent rooms available. My Wife and I on three previous stays at CBR would always stay in the Jamaica buildings because we enjoyed the short walk across the bridge to Old Port Royale, but I cant remember which buildings had nicer views.

Lets cut this long story short, where would you request to stay?

Thanks in advance for any information you can provide to this newly converted lurker, so happy I finally joined.:)

Jamaica and Aruba are mirror-images of each other.

Other than water view, all buildings will have various views with in the same building (some towards the parking lots, some towards a courtyard, etc.).

If you booked directly through Disney, call them now and put a request on your reservation for a room in Aruba or Jamaica with a nice view. If you booked through a travel agent, call the TA and ask that this request be put in.

This is by no means a guarantee, but it will give you an additional chance of getting what you want beyond waiting until check-in time (although you should certainly ask then, as well).

HAVE FUN!

Thanks for the reply Eric that was fast. I actually booked the trip through CAA (canadian obviously) for the really good discount they were able to get for us, We were going to stay at ASMO (again) but the agent at CAA got us into CBR for only $53 more in total, a no brainer in my opinion. So having booked the trip already and having confermation # in hand, should I call Disney directly or let the agent at CAA handle it for me.

Thanks again for the quick response, Cheers

Don.

CBR has 4 paid categories.

Water view costs extra
King bed room- costs extra
Preferred- costs extra
Standard

You can't just request a king bed. If you really want it you need to reserve it.

I'm sorry I mis-worded that. I did pay the extra for a King Sized Bed.

Thanks.

I booked my vaca through a Disney Travel Agent and asked her to get a King Bed in a Preferred Location. Is that Combination possible? The Confirmation says King Bed but doesn't say Preferred location. When I emailed her back about that she said "I’ll call and double check, but I believe all of the king rooms are in preferred building since many are also the accessible rooms."

Thanks in advance!!!

Missie

There are king beds in locations other than preferred. You can't pay for both water view or king. They may put you in a preferred location but then they may not.

Accessible rooms are scattered around the resort also.

So my reservation should clearly state that is in a Preferred Location/Building, right? I'll have to email her again.

Thanks,

Missie

Your reservation should be for whichever of the two "upgrades" you want more. If being in a preferred location building is more important, then reserve that. And since you said you were told there were no king bed rooms left, then defiintely reserve a preferred location room.

Safetymom is right, and your TA who calls herself a Disney specialist :lmao: is wrong -- king bed rooms are sprinkled throughout CBR and are certainly NOT only in the 6 preferred location buildings.

Since Disney is such a money-making machine, it has always really surprised me that they don't let you pay for (and thus guarantee) a combination of two or more upgrades at the Moderate resorts. Even if everything was available, you still would be able to pay 2 separate upcharges to reserve/guarantee a king bed room in a preferred location building. You'd have to choose one, pay for that, and then merely request the other.

A questions about the mugs... We were at CBR 4 years ago and purcheased 2 mugs. Are they still good to use or do we need to buy new ones?

Can't wait this is our 3rd trip WDW and alsways stayed at CBR. Home a way from home I guess

I don't know if this is way outdated or not but we re-used All Star Movies mugs that my uncle and aunt had bought on their trip a month before we went. We had not idea that they were a one time only thing until I read someone elses post on here and even though ours were faded, no one stopped us on them. But FYI if you are coming this summer the mugs have changed to Dreams mugs that are standard throughout all WDW resorts. I know this because I ordered a gift basket for my boyfriend upon arrival and that is what will be in it.
