Caribbean Beach Resort FAQ's Part II

We got back on 12/12 and found the resort beautiful but too big for us. On the day we checked out I was on the verge of tears to drop off the husband and 5 & 6 yr olds at Old Port Royale at 6:15 am. they had to stand in the 40 degree cold for 15 min. til the restaurant opened, get our luggage to the Customs House for check in and boarding passes, wait over 1/2 hour for the internal shuttle to take me back to OPR for breakfast,(which never came)! So I jogged back to OPR to meet DH an DD's. All before 7 am!

Like I said, it is a beautiful resort but too big for us and hard to get around in when you have been on your feet for 7 days. I will go back to PO French Quarter where I belong!!! (tiny resort and I love it!)

We were there from 12/3 to 12/10 and although we enjoyed our trip to WDW, I would try and stay somewhere other than CBR next time. We had a better time at POR on earlier stays. The first thing I noticed was the messy appearance of the food court at Old Port Royal. That didn't change all week. There was always food and dirt on the floors and the tables were sticky very often. The next thing we noticed from earlier trips to Disney was the inattention to detail. I remember when you could wake up in the morning and all the garbage from the night before was removed from the flower beds, or walkways, or pool areas. On this trip, we often found litter around the Resort trails and in the garden areas. We just don't remember that being a problem before, and it was very disappointing.
The bus transportation was always standing room only. We waited about 45 minutes to check in, and felt like we were running for our lives during check out. The place was mobbed and very noisy. When a Magical Express bus showed up @ 12:00pm for the 1:00pm departure they asked if anyone would like to go (and sit) at the Airport early, and People ran to the bus as if they were really ready to leave. In the past, I would stay at WDW as long as possible before going to the Airport. I overheard others talking about the mobs of people, and how disappointed they were too. It may just come down to December not really being the OFF Season any longer.

Anyone know what bulidings are close to the Bus Stops?

Aruba Building #56 -- we stayed there and the bus stop was close.

i've heard rumours that CBR is getting its room refurbished next year. Does anyone have any information on this please.

I haven't heard anything. CBR was closed completely during 2002 and reopened for Christmas that year. It seems a little soon for all the rooms to be refurbished.

It was on mouseplanet on dec 5th.

We just stayed @ the CBR a few weeks ago. We thought the rooms were fine. The kids loved the hidden Mickey's in the curtains and bed spreads. :earboy2:

Once again, I am back reading up on CBR. I've tried three or four times to stay here, but it's always changed for one reason or another. Hopefully I'll make it back there in June with my nephew for his 10th birthday. It was his choice of where we were staying and he picked CBR because of the pool. He thinks it's really cool and looks like a pirate fort. If this is all he is basing his decision on, is he going to be disappointed in CBR? He's gone pirate nuts this year pirate: and I want to make sure he has a great time.

Cheers!

We have reservations 1/10-1/15 but call everyday to see if we can changae to POFQ. It sounds too big for me.

We have reservations here for 1/18-1/24. We've never stayed at a moderate before, and my husband really liked the theming at CBR, but now I'm concerned that we should've picked a smaller resort like POFQ.
Hopefully someone here can answer my questions an ease my fears!
We did pay for a preferred room, but the person I spoke to only said that I was guaranteed a room in Martinique or Trinidad North. We have a 5 year old and a 1 year old, plus I'm pregnant. Can anyone tell me how far I'm likely to be from OPR, worst case scenario? Is it much further than a preferred room at the All Stars would be from their food court?
Also, if we decided to take a cab back to the resort in the evening, would it drop us near our "island"? Or at the Customs House? And how far a walk is the CH from the preferred areas?
Plus, how does the Bell Services work at the moderates? At All-Stars, they seemed to deliver it on their own schedule. At AKL, the luggage was delivered right away. Both of these are fine, just want to know what to expect.
And last but not least, how likely is it that we'll be able to get our requests of a first-floor (MUCH easier with the stroller), non-smoking room? Is this too much to request?
Thank you SO much for any help or advice you could give me!

Trinidad North and Martinique are the preferred villages. They are the closest to Old Port Royale and the main pool. Those locations are all non smoking so no worries with that.

The taxi can take you back to your village.

This resort will be perfect for your pirate lover! The bridge and island in the middle of the resort is great for playing and exploring.

Don't forget all those Pirate souvenirs in the gift shop. :teeth:

We'll be arriving 1/8. We have a rental car, so I like to be fairly close to a parking lot, but not too much of a hike to OPR. Any recs on a good building to request??

There are parking lots outside of every village so you are never far from a parking lot. If you want to be close to OPR and not pay for a preferred location I recommend Aruba or Jamaica.

I have kind of a silly question. I've stayed at CBR before, but I can't remember if the beds have space underneath them, or if the mattresses are resting on a raised platform from the floor, not the actual bed frame. The reason I ask is that although there are only 3 of us (honestly! :teeth: ), we like to bring our twin size Aero bed for DD to sleep on. DH and I cannot comfortably share a double, and NO ONE can comfortably share a double with DD (she's all over the bed!). We would like to be able to shove the Aero bed underneath one of the doubles while we are out of the room instead of deflating it every day to get it out of the way for Mousekeeping. We couldn't do it last year at POFQ because the mattresses were on platforms. We had a trundle in our room at POR two years ago, which she loved to sleep on and which gave us the idea for the Aero bed (DH and I loved each having a bed to ourselves!), so of course those beds did have space underneath. I've looked at pictures of the rooms on All Ears, but I can't tell from those. I know this is a silly question, but if anyone knows I would appreciate it!
