Caribbean Beach Resort FAQ

Elysiannn , starting in 2004 Martinique and Trinidad North are preferred buildings which cost $15 daily extra. If you made a reservation you should have been offered that. So if you don't want to pay extra then you need to look at other buildings.

I would have it noted in your reservation what your requests are. Decide which ones are most important because you have several requests. It is going to be hard to grant them all.

Also keep an open mind and realize it is just a request. The CM's love to work their Disney magic and get you the best room but sometimes it wasn't what you thought you wanted.

Corner rooms are a little hard to come by.

You will enjoy CBR no matter where you are staying.

Thanks SafetyMom - If I have my preferences logged in with Dreams Unlimited you would still fax CBR directly a day before you arrive? Or should I call CBR? I think nonsmoking room is my top preferences and second would be not having to walk a great distance to OPR (since I'll be walking alot in the parks).

What about buses vs. car? Any advice on that?

I realize that some of us get so wound up about where we're staying at WDW (me #1) - it's just we become so kid like and wanting it perfect. I realize that the CMs do their very best at trying to make it perfect.

Thanks for this thread and all your great advice. Ely

If you have it noted in your reservation I wouldn't worry about it. When you get there ask where your room is and mention about the walking and they will look again to try and accomodate you.

I think these boards work everybody up that you have to request rooms or you won't get a nice one. That couldn't be further from the truth. We don't make any requests before hand and have always gotten wonderful locations.

When we went on our last trip off season, we did not have much of a wait for a bus at all. But now when we go we may drive to resort hop for dinner because there are no direct buses from resort to resort and you would have to transfer. That may take awhile. We are still considering it ourselves. Anyone have any suggestions?
17 days & 20 hrs before we leave but who's counting!:Pinkbounc :smooth:

I just made my ressies for Feb for a 10 night stay at CBR. While I was on the phone, the CM heard my kids saying, "Let's get the same room we had last year. It was great. We loved that room, etc. etc." She asked what room number we had and I told her. She said she'd put that in our ressie. It was Martinique 2537. Last year it wasn't costing extra for that location, this year it is. I'm wondering if my rate includes the extra $$ or if I'm not going to get that location, or if I'm going to have a surprise when I check in. I don't know if she has the authority to put an exact room number down. Does anyone have any experience with this type of a situation? Thanks for any help!

I wouldn't count on getting the exact room you had last year especially since those are preferred buildings in 2004. Why don't you call CRO back and ask if your rate quote was for the preferred building? If it isn't then you have a decision to make. I don't think they will be making exceptions unless the resort is full and they upgrade you to a preferred building like I have been upgraded to water view without paying.

Since it is in your reservation that should help at room assignment time but don't count on it and you won't be disapointed.

I also have ressies with DU and they are for CBR on Nov. 6-9th! I am getting a King Room, and WILL FAX them 4 days before to ask for Building 26 in Martinique and Jamaica 45--hope they have KING rooms there!;)

Poohbear123, the king rooms are scattered all over the resort. I hope your request is granted. Have a great time. :)

Just back from CBR and had a WONDERFUL time! Check-in was a breeze and we had a great location (Jamaica room 4347 – a true waterview). The variety of choices at the food court was better than expected and the food court was not crowded at all. Bus transportation was awesome – never waited more than 10 minutes and the only time we did not have a seat was coming back to the resort after Fantasy in the Sky (already expected to have to stand). Two days in a row we were blessed with towel animals (peacock, 2 rabbits and a swan). Best of all, we attached a credit card to our room key and check out was a breeze – never had to return to the Custom House – explanation of charges to card was placed on door (sealed of course) and we left at our leisure.

Some tips: If you eat breakfast at Old Port Royale in the morning and take the bus from that stop it is surprisingly less crowded than some of the other section stops. If you catch the bus around 8:05 a.m. (buses to each park arrive at this time one right behind the other) you should have no problem getting a seat and will have plenty of time to arrive at the park for “rope drop.”

I would like to thank Safetymom for all the information she has provided regarding CBR – it really helped a lot!:D

We've now stayed at Caribbean Beach twice since Jan. and must say the refurbed rooms (we've only stayed in Martinique) are great. Clean, bright and you can really tell they have less than a year of use on them.

The pool is looking good and the food court was clean.
Frankly, for a moderate, we have no complaints. I especially enjoyed the early morning walks for coffee and hearing the music of steel drums being played.

We've also eaten at Shutters, their sit-down restaurant and I really enjoyed the Marinated Pork Tenderloin.

I saw the pics of the new CBR mugs, and the ones of the food court. My question.....do they have the type of mugs that fit in the car cup holders? I didn't see any in the food court pics, but I'm hoping they have them. Thanks to safetymom for keeping us up to date with information.

Beth

Not sure about the mugs but can't imagine if they had they before that they wouldn't have the smaller style now.

Glad you found the information useful ttfn.

Well our first vist it CBR is just over...but I have to say that it was wonderful. We arrived last Saturday night around 8:00, and were about 4th in line for check-in, and I do have to say that it was a SLOW process.

I had sent a request for a king room in Aruba, we were granted a standard room in Jamaica. I was disappointed at first, but I was glad with Jamaica in the end (do still wish we could have had a king room though!). We were assigned to room 4109, which was a corner room. We stayed there the first night, and when we returned from the parks on day 2-we found the carpet next to the bed closest to the bathroom was wet. When we showered for dinner we realized that our shower was leaking all over the bathroom floor, and going into the "bedroom" area, which was why the carpet was wet. Long story short-we called maintenance and the front desk and were assigned to 4113.

We had no other room issues the remainder of the week, except for cleanliness. When we first moved to room 4113, I noticed a piece of cracker on the floor in the dressing area. Instead of picking it up, I decided to leave it to see how good housekeeping was. Needless to say it was still there when we left this morning! I did notice quite a bit of mildew buildup on the bathroom walls also. We also did not receive any towel animals-or any special treats for that matter!

Now on to the good stuff!!!!- Although I had been disappointed with our room assignment-we really liked Jamaica 41. It was quiet, close to the bus stop, and although the walk to Olde Port Royale was a bit long we enjoyed it. The quiet pool was nice, as was the "big" pool. Although it was closed one entire day (possibly Wednesday?). The biggest plus was that Jamaica was the first stop for all buses except for Downtown Disney.

The food court had a nice selection of food-we ate breakfast there everyday and usually had cereal, yogurt, fruit, etc from the grab and go market. After we checked in on our first evening we did have dinner at Shutters. The food was not bad, but certainly not worth the prices...I recommend just sticking with the food court at the resort.

I read so many negative comments regarding the Disney Transportation service, so I was a bit nervous about that. I have to say that I was quite impressed by their service. We had a CM at our bus stop several mornings, doing research. I truly believe that Disney is trying very had to improve this service. Like I mentioned earlier, we were the first bus stop for almost all trips, and we found return buses were very quick. The only park that I noticed the buses were a little slow picking up was the Animal Kingdom.

I guess that is all for now-still a little tired from our trip back, but if I think of anything else I will post it. Feel free to ask any questions!!!

I am very much looking foward to my stay at CBR in just 45 days! It will be my second time there but DH & I can't remember something about the rooms. I thought I remembered a mini bar in the room but maybe am confusing it w/the room we stayed in at the Dolphin. Am I nuts? And if I'm not nuts, can it be rented like the fridges at the other resorts (or better yet) used for free? :p

Also we have a king bed room reserved - are those ALSO a water view or just standard view or are there some of both? I guess it won't matter too much, I'm just thrilled to be going back again!

safetymom, thanks for keeping up w/this thread and thanks to anyone who answers!

:D
