Caribbean Beach FAQ part V

They were at our door every day as well sometimes two to three times a day. One night while there on the news they were highlighting pizza companies that slide their "ads" in the hotel doors and had even talked about how one girl (NOT AT DISNEY) was raped by one of the pizza guys delivering ads. It was kinda freaky but again no one was really concerned by it.

We really didn't care for CBR as much as we thought we would. DH wants to try somewhere else next time. It's not that we didn't like it because after all it's gorgeous but it just wasn't what we thought it would be.

Why didn't you care for CBR as much as you thought? We think it would be perfect for us (from the pictures and stuff) but I like to get a variety of opinions.

Before I go into our feelings please remember that these are just that - our feelings and not at all reflective of anyone else on here. But also, they are our feelings so please don't flame me for them.

It was gorgeous so that wasn't a problem. DH felt that it had too many bus stops and although they are convenient when you are in Jamaica or Aruba, he would rather just have one stop. I on the other hand felt it was a bit too spread out for us. Old Port Royale is still a little ways from the preferred rooms. We didn't really even use our resort mugs because in the mornings we were more concerned with getting to our bus stop than walking over to Port Royale to get drinks then going to the bus stop. Lastly, I think I need a bigger bed so unfortunately I think that means CSR or deluxe next time as doubles just didn't cut it for us.

With all of that said, we had a wonderful stay. It's a beautiful beach but honestly I was staying there because of the pool and the kiddie water area and alas it was too cool on most of our days to play in it. :rolleyes1

In their recent refurbishment, Port Orleans French Quarter got queen-size beds, too.

Ooooh that might work!!! On our resort sight seeing tour DH really like Port Orleans French Quarter. It seemed a lot more compact than Caribbean Beach. The pool was really nice as well and the playground was right by the pool. Thank you so much for the information!!!!! :thumbsup2

I don't think you can walk to Epcot from CBR. There is not a designated walking path that I'm aware of and Disney doesn't want you walking on the side of the busy roads.

What is the best way to make a room request? I requested the Jamaica or Martinique buildings when I made my reservations, but I also want a corner room, preferably on the first floor. Should I call the hotel directly when it is closer to our check in date???
TIA!!

We have made the request as early as possible for Jamaica Bldg. #43 down by the court where the tables and chairs are on the ground floor and have never been disappointed. They have done a great job with our requests.

:goodvibesMartinique buildings 24, 25, 26

We are thinking of #26 - close to the food court, but then how far from the quiet pool & laundry in Martinique ?

I have also heard of :confused:bad bus service at CBR - is that true ?

We will be going to WDW in late June to early July, busy time of the year and rainy, muggy, hot days - :confused3do the buses run more often ?

We have only stayed at deluxe resorts.:lovestruc

Our other moderate choice and our current reservation is at POFQ.
POFQ is a nice small size, easy to walk around, has the 2 sinks - but they are 15 sq feet smaller and the pool is not appealing to our teens (ages DS 19 & DD 16).

So should we move to CBR from POFQ ?

We are paying another $15 a night for our DS - age 19.
We can pay another $15 for the preferred room.

Or just stay at POFQ and only pay one extra $15 and do the POR pool instead ?

We've stayed in Martinique 24 and 26 and the walks to Old Port Royale were very short. If I had to chose one of those two, I'd choose 26. Our walk to Old Port Royale was about 2 minutes and we used the OPR bus stop more than we did the Martinique bus stop.

Our stays at CBR have been 3 x over the Memorial Day week and following week and 2 x the first week of August. We have never had any issues with the buses. The CBR does not share buses with any other resort and is centrally located so it doesn't take long to get to anywhere on Disney property.

Our daughter (no longer a teenager but was during some of our stays) really enjoyed the resort. We have rented surrey bikes and boats from the marina and it was a unique way to see the resort.

It's true that the resort is large but, if you are going to be paying for a preferred location, there's no need to worry about the size.

Sorry it took me so long to report back after our January/February stay.

It was mentioned a while back (before we went in late January) that room requests aren't seen until the day of check-in. That may be the case, but I think it's still worthwhile to put in your requests. We paid for a standard room, and when making the reservation requested as close to the main pool as possible. When I did the online check in a week in advance I also checked the box for ground floor.

We were put in Martinique 25, first floor. PERFECT! We were close to the beach, the main pool, the food court (got a lot of use out of our refillable mugs), and the OPR bus stop.

We had a wonderful stay, loved CBR, and will definitely stay there again. I haven't had time to catch up on all the pages I've missed, but I noticed recent discussion of offsite pizza flyers. We started getting them the last few days of our stay -- February 3rd or 4th. We got TONS of them. It was really quite annoying but I didn't think to complain about it.

There were some cheerleaders or dancers or something staying across the lake from us while we were there, for competitions. We had no problem with them. We didn't see much of them on the buses and stuff until our last couple of days, and when we did they were polite. They were mostly older girls, mid-late teens I'd guess. There were bunches of them in the pool at night, but again, we had no problems with them there either.

DD did the pirate adventure, and enjoyed it. I thought she might not like it because it doesn't go very far (she's already done the one out of POR to Downtown Disney, and the one out of the GF that goes all over the lake there). I shouldn't have worried because she had a great time. pirate:

I havn't stayed at CBR since 1996. So excited to be staying there again. I have only stayed at the ALL STAR Resorts since then and enjoyed them thoroughly. For some reason though:), the CBR makes the trip a little more exciting! Cant wait!

so excited for our first CBR stay in 41 days!:cheer2:

We have a 2 year old who loves to eat. As he will not get credits on our dining plan, for counter service, we are hoping to share some of our meals and suppliment with snack credits. Do you all know of any good snack credit options at OPR for filling food (not dessert) ?
Thanks!!

We stayed at CBR from March 18-27, 2011. One word will describe it all:

FANTASTIC !!!!!

We were in room 2524 (first floor, water view in Martinique). The themed pool was busy, so we spent more time at the quite pool. Both were 2 minute walks away. We used the OPR bus stop more than Martinique, as it was closer. No long waits for any buses and most every time we had seats to sit in and did not have to stand.

No musty smells in our room, no black mold in our room, quiet, clean, great view (we had a corner room w/ two large windows overlooking the lake). All the CBR haters out there, can't say I had one complaint over a 9 night stay.

So glad to hear that you enjoyed your stay at the CBR. I can't wait to get back there!

OPR had bags of Caramel corn that were on the snack credits. It was peanut free and tasted good. We used our last credit for a bag to eat on the way home on the plane. :thumbsup2

We are staying at the CBR from April 28th to May 7th and would love to request our room. We paid for the preferred location, I assume that you would recommend us requesting this room, but are there others with a similar setup (first floor and water view) in case this one isnt available?

Thanks

I would have anyone ask for this room ! Especially since we are not from Florida, the scenery was great. I am sure others who have stayed at CBR more than myself may have other hints. Glad we are not there right now, they are getting hit hard w/ severe storms. I guess they need the rain to ease the drought concerns though.
