We've stayed there many times and never been able to hear our neighbors. The only time we had a problem with that was at the Pop. Never seen any critters, either. We did have an alligator walk past our doorway at the CSR once!I think critters can be found at most all WDW resorts.
We have stayed on both floors at CBR. I really like the top floor better. It just seems a little more private. Plus, like you said - less worries about critters. (Although we did have a frog in our 2nd floor room at POR!) We did hear some noise from our upstairs neighbors when we stayed on the bottom floor. First there was a woman obviously wearing hard sole shoes when she was getting ready in the mornings, on the tile bathroom floor. Then after she left a family moved in and let their kids run and jump before bedtime. None of it was extremely bothersome. My kids slept though it, but I am a very light sleeper.
There are only 2 floors, so if you do take a stroller and had to lug it upstairs, it's only 1 flight of stairs and there is a big landing in the middle.
Those are just my thoughts! I know lots of people love the first floor.
Thanks a bunch to both of you. Even though you had different opinions, it was still very helpful. I am a light sleeper also so that is something to consider. And an alligator!!!!!
