Caribbean Beach FAQ Part IV

I just booked our June trip and we are staying at CBR. I am very excited. :cool1: I am taking 4 people who have never to been to WDW. My kids loved the pools and since we spend time in them everyday it was important to me to stay somewhere with a good one. My kids thought it looked like a mini waterpark. I hope we have a good stay. We try to make the best out of all situations so I am sure if there is something going wrong we won't notice. :goodvibes

I cancelled BC this morning and booked 2 preferred rooms May 29-June 5 2010 since we have 2 extra's in tow. I requested Martinique 25 or 26 thanks to this thread. :thumbsup2I am really hoping for a better mod experience after our stay at POR in 2005.:sad2:That's one of the reasons i choose CBR so that i could pay extra to be close to the food court and pool area. We hated the 15 minute hike to get food at POR.:scared:

Thanks to everyone.:worship:

Hey fellow Louisiana resident! We'll be at the CBR at the same time. We arrive on May 27 and leave on June 5th. I didn't pay the extra money for a preferred location but we have stayed in Martinique preferred three times. Twice we were given free upgrades.

I was thinking about your posts and thought you were going to be there around the same time. It's our 1st time. I am soo hoping we love it and can say we have a favorite mod.

Just back yesterday with some thoughts...

The bad:

Pirate rooms. Never again. The theme was cool and all and since it was the only room type available when we downgraded resorts I don't regret trying it (it was still better than being at a different mod without a zero-entry pool), but we were in building 38 and a million miles from Old Port Royale. It wouldn't have been a problem if we didn't have a stroller, because the internal bus came frequently and the park bus drivers were always very helpful in letting people know which stops they were headed to before leaving the resort, but with the baby walking was easier than folding the stroller for short bus hops.

We also noticed some minor upkeep issues. Nothing major, but things that I don't expect to see at Disney, like the light by the smoking area/bench where DH & I would sit at night after the kids were asleep was burnt out for the entire length of our stay even though we reported it to a cast member. As someone who has traveled quite a bit as a single woman/mom that's the sort of thing that would make me nervous if I were solo, and I would have expected Disney to address it promptly.

And one last, petty complaint - the toilet part of the bathroom is TINY! Too small for comfort when helping a small child with a bath or an older child with a toileting issue. DS was sick one night, and believe me you do NOT want to try to help a half-asleep 11yo clean up after puking in that closet of a space.

The good:

The resort is just beautiful. Our last stay before this was at WL, and I really didn't like it because it didn't feel like Florida with the lack of tropical landscaping. CBR definitely feels like Florida, which is just what I'm looking for when I fly away from cold, grey Michigan in the winter!

The pool complex is amazing. My kids are pretty far apart in age (11y, 8y, and 16mo) and the pool was perfect for all of them. I'm hard pressed to think of another Disney resort I could say that about. Even my personal favorite, the Beach Club, wouldn't have been as good, because the size and depth would have made keeping track of all three much more challenging. And I loved that the pool & hot tub are open 24/7; even with the long walk it was nice to hit the hot tub after the kids were asleep once in a while!

The food court was very nice. That's something we really missed about staying at deluxes - no real selection at the quick service location. Old Port Royale always had plenty of choices in the grab & go for when the baby wanted a snack, and a good selection of full meal options as well.

Bus service was really great. Our last moderate stay was at POR and the buses were the biggest downside to that resort and the reason I don't think I'd stay there again, but CBR's location is great so the bus rides are all fairly short and we didn't run into any annoyingly long waits. There were the usual "bad luck" incidents, where we watched the bus we wanted pull away from 50 yards away, but even then we didn't wait more than 15-20min tops. They had CMs at the bus stops several times during our trip, logging the comings and goings of the buses, so I assume they're working to improve the service further. But what really impressed me were the short rides. Even when we got right on a bus at POR it seemed to take forever to get to the parks; from CBR, it didn't feel like we were spending ages sitting on buses.

All in all, we really enjoyed the resort. This was our 4th on-site Disney stay, each at a different resort, and CBR is second on our list (after BC but above WL and POR). I would still like to try Coronado eventually, but if we do another moderate trip in the next 4-5 years while my youngest is still small, we'll be going back to CBR for that fabulous pool. But next time, we'll be booking a preferred room!

We're staying at CBR for the first time March 18-27!! Woo hooo!!! Pirate standard view room. We are so excited!! The pool looks amazing! Since we will be a little further out, can someone tell me about the internal bus system? Does it stop at the the same bus stops as park buses? Or somewhere else? And do they look like the park buses, or different? If I get on an internal bus to go to pool from TS, will I have to go all the way around the resort stopping at every internal stop, or do internal buses run in both directions? I know the other resorts have different queue areas for different park, is that the same at CBR, or just all at the same stop? I am asking all these questions because we will probably get a rental car since we have lots of pre-RD bfasts and plan to go from parks to WPs most days (we can keep our towels, swim suits, etc in car trunk), but we will use the buses some too...unless they are as bad as I have read on this board! :scared1:

The CBR buses have always been great for us!

The internal buses run the same way that the park buses do. The sign will just say internal shuttle on it rather than have a park name. If you get on at Trinidad South it will then stop at Jamaica, Aruba, Barbados, Martinique, and then OPR. Will take about 7-8 minutes at the most. Honestly though, I would just walk it. We walked from the TS bus stop to OPR and it only took 7 minutes, with 2 kids.

The park buses either start at Jamaica or Martinique. And like I said, if you get on at the very first stop you are looking at about 7-8 minutes to make the rest of the stops before you actually leave the resort. No big deal. And once you leave the resort it is 3 minutes to DHS, 5 to Epcot, 9 to DTD, and 11 to MK & AK.

Hope that helps! :goodvibes

We are thinking of staying at CBR in February, and have read many horrible reviews about in on Trip Advisor. We stayed there a few years ago, and it was very nice. Are those reviews accurate, or are some people just not satisfied with anything?

Also considering staying at CSR, since they just recently finished refurbishing all of their rooms. But would really like to stay at CBR.

Any input from anyone who has been to CBR recently would be appreciated.

I'm a "Destination Expert for Orlando" on the Trip Advisor forums. I can assure you that, overall, Trip Advisor members are not as savvy about Disney as people here are. Overall, as a group, they have different expectations. They have different sensibilities than people here on the DIS. I'm not saying that that's a bad thing. It's just different. And I think that's why there are so many negative reviews.

For instance, most TA members prefer to stay off-site, whereas I strongly assume that most DISers prefer to stay on-site. People who aren't enthralled with the Disney magic like we are, they don't get a special feeling about staying on-site like we do. They look at it in very black-and-white terms ... staying on-site means fewer amenities and higher prices (which is true), and thus they'll tend to judge the Disney resorts more harshly. In your own terms, I think many of the negative reviewers are people who are just not satisifed with anything.

So I'm not slamming TA in any way, I'm just saying that most TA users have a different global view of WDW than most of us do.

I totally agree with CleveRocks regarding trip advisor reviews. It seems that the people who post there focus more on the negatives than the positives.

We've stayed at the CBR four years in a row (most recently August, 2009) and will be staying there again in 2010. I haven't seen any decline in the resort at all since our first stay 4 years ago. As a matter of fact, I think the resort has only gotten better. The rooms recently underwent rehabs and the main pool has been completely redone too.

I'd say go with your gut reaction and book a stay at the CBR.

By the way, if you want to see recent pics of the resort and rooms, I have some posted in my trip report. Just click on the link in my signature.

I agree with mickeystoontown because CBR is the best! Don't read the reviews on tripadvisor! I didn't read it! We are going to January 14, 2010 to CBR for Jeany's 38th Birthday!

Listen to what CleveRocks, Mickeystoontown, and others say on these boards -- they, like you, have enjoyed stays at CBR and have lots of wisdom to share. For our family, we've found CBR to be just perfect for us! We've stayed there 3 times now, most recently this past summer, and we love it more every time! If you liked CBR before, you'll love it now as well! :thumbsup2

Ditto! We've stayed there 3 times as well, 1991, 2006 and Oct 2009. I'm very comfortable there. ;) We've stayed off-site, and the Swan and OKW on other stays - CBR is just that tho - Comfortable! :goodvibes

I agree with the others! We love CBR and have had 2 wonderful stays there. Our most recent was this year in January and everything was great.(there's a link to my review in my signature if you want to take a look) We've stayed at all the moderates and CBR is our favorite! :goodvibes Great rooms, great CM's, great food, great bus service, relaxing tropical atmosphere, and the pools are the best!

Truthfully, I wouldn't take too much stock in what Trip Advisor has to say. They've given great reviews to hotels we've stayed at that we were totally disappointed in and stayed at resorts that they bashed and we loved.

We've not stayed at the CBR (our home is the CSR), but our son was at the CBR in July and they had a really nice stay with no issues of any kind (they only had a minor problem with a bus on one night...waiting over 20 minutes...but it was 4th of July and that can and should be expected).

43 days!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

So - if you were going today and could request any non-perferred room - which would you request?

I need something to day dream about on this cold, grey, snow filled day in Minnesota!
