I am interested in a career in human resources. All the human resource positions I have seen advertised want either a lot of experience or a degree in human resources or human services. I have a degree in education with a concentration in society services. Anyone know if society services be similar to human services?

I am open to going back to school but the university does not offer a degree in human resources. Should I just go for an MBA?

I am looking for an entry level position because I just graduated about a year ago and do not have a lot of professional experience.

Any other info about the Human Resources field would be appreciated.
TIA

I work in HR.

There are many areas of HR - some companies have a few different areas under an HR blanket (Benefits, Hiring, Payroll, Staffing issues, Reporting, Compensation).

My degree was in English Literature/Communications, however I started working as a temporary in an HR Department while still in college. Depending on what field in HR you are looking to get in to, not all require an HR schooling background. You want to make sure you have a lot of experience with computers, and very strong customer service skills both verbal and in person.

Sometimes going through a temporary staffing company is the best way to get into an HR entry level position in a corporation you are interested in. Just a thought.

Good luck!

I also work in HR. I'm currently in a recruiting/staffing focused role, but will be moving into more of a generalist position within the next month. I've also worked with training and development, recognition, and employee relations.

My undergrad degrees are in Film Studies and Political Science, and while I took some HR Management and HR Law classes, I am far from having a formal education. :) My advice is to do some research and figure out what areas of HR you're interested in -- comp and benefits? HRIS? Staffing? Since you're looking for entry level, keep an eye out for titles that include clerk, assistant or coordinator.

SHRM (Society for HR Management) is the professional association for HR; their website has a lot of valuable information that might help you narrow down your areas of interest. I agree with Hillbeans that temping is a GREAT way to get your foot in the door as well.
