Cards

I still buy cards. There’s a small local card store in my town that has a good selection, all at half off. I usually get them there or sometimes will pick one up at Rite Aid or Target.

Dollar Tree, although during the ongoing pandemic at least out here in LA, their card selection especially of note cards is not what it once was at all. I also get cards on Amazon, Christian Book, and Walmart online. Always a joy for me to read of people still sending card. For me, doing so means a lot :)

Most hallmark stores near me have closed. Drug stores, dollar stores and grocery stores still carry them. Though a family member recently was searching for a card and said many places by then currently have low stock. I had heard about a paperboard or card stock shortage earlier, but don’t know if this is related.

I don’t send as many cards as I used to, but have purchased some cards over the last year, from hallmark.com, at dollar stores, and at local retailers.

The dollar store.
It's an inexpensive way to let someone know you are thinking of them.

For those who think they are a waste of time, try sending a handwritten card to an elderly shut-in. It will make you feel good!

My little grandkids love getting a card in the mail so I do all holidays for them. They will carry their cards around like a toy/book for a few days after receiving it.

We do Hallmark majority of the time unless it doesn't make sense to make a trip there. I get coupons for the rewards program, a free just because card every month at least they presently are running that promotion, etc.

Christmas is by far the one where we spend the most.

We've bought cards at Dollar Tree, Target, Walmart, etc so if it's just needing a card and one of those is closer we'll go there. Otherwise I'd rather earn rewards for something I'm going to purchase anyhow and honestly don't see much if any price difference aside from Dollar Tree.

I’m a crafter so I make cards. It’s a huge industry and there are many card makers on YouTube and many companies who produce stamps, dies, inks, and many tools. I got into it when I retired and it’s given me a creative outlet. I make many more than I can use so I often package them up and give them to friends and relatives. I don’t sell them as no one could pay me what the cards actually cost in time and supplies. And I don’t want it to be a job. It saved me during the pandemic, giving me something to do. I also belong to a craft group and we get together once a week to craft, talk, laugh and eat.

I've used Hallmark's online ordering quite often over the past 3+ years. Easy shopping at home having them delivered to the house, or sometimes staff pick the ones I want at the nearby store and I just go there to pick up. In and out in under 10 minutes, tops. Almost always using several of their online coupons. Two weeks ago, I selected 3 cards, about $20. My cost, $0.

Dollarama
I‘m just not really into giving or receiving cards. I read and toss them, so I don’t want to pay over a dollar for a card. I’m cheap that way.

If you asked me if I would be BUYING greeting cards today, 30 years ago, I would have said no. I had just gotten my first computer and Hallmark card making software and a color printer. We made most of our cards for probably 20 years, but got out of the habit. Buying is just easier.

Usually the dollar store. But a local thrift store recently had a huge bag full of unused cards for different occasions, and my wife bought that. We have used those for a while, and still have a lot of cards to go in that bag.

It’s the $.66 stamp that pushes Hallmark cards off the edge! 😂

I have a friend who does this so I tagged her in to create a few handmade cards for Thank You, Happy Winter, Hanukkah and a few Christmas, although pretty Christmas cards are usually easiest for me to find.

Interesting everyone has such an easy time finding cards. I normally do too but recently there seems to be a dry spell so there either haven't been any in stock or the wording on what they have is very bizarre when I read them.

Dollar Tree. I only send them to a few older relatives who I know like to receive them. Most people I send a digital message for special occasions. So much easier, and they don't have to toss it later.
