Carded for a Lighter?

Kath: why is that?

Because 32 paracetamol or ibuprofen won't do you a lot of harm, but more could be fatal. Plus given you can only take two every four hours, 32 is already over 2 day's constant supply so that's plenty for your average person to have in their medical cabinet. Interestingly they'll let you buy 32 paracetamol AND 32 ibuprofen in one go, but not any more than 32 of each...

The pharmacist can assess your needs and sell larger quantities if necessary (up to 100 without prescription). I'm not even sure if the "maximum of 32" is LAW or whether it is just universal store policy.

To be fair, though, if you wanted to take an overdose, all you'd need to do is visit a couple of different supermarkets!

Yep, at Walmart that includes the lighters that you use to light a candle, Super Glue, and sparklers...

I can just imagine someone snorting Super Glue...and getting their nostils stuck shut!:rotfl:

You have to be 18 to buy fireworks here. Personally I HATE fireworks - I hate the fact that the public are allowed to buy explosives! I'd rather it was restricted to organized events where people have been properly trained and the grounds set up appropriately but that's my personal pet peeve.

I agree about the fireworks! I hate walking my dogs around the 4th of July. Some of our genius neighbors set off fireworks in the street. That scares me as you never know when a car will drive over it while it's sitting there waiting to go off. :scared1: Plus, I don't like playing dodge the explosive when I am out with my puppies.

Kath: why is that?

In my state, pseudophedrine has been under lock and key for awhile now. You have to be 18, show ID, and have your name entered into a database so you can't buy more than 2 boxes in a certain time frame. This is all because at one point one of our counties was the meth capital of the nation, I'm not sure it is anymore but it is still a huge problem here.

I understand why they do it, but I admit it was very frustrating to me. I started college in Virginia when I was 15 as part of a special program that allows girls to enter colelge as early as after the 8th grade. Some of my friends my freshman year were 13. We are old enough to go to college half a country (or in some cases in another country) away from our parents, but we can't buy white out or cold medicine? Thankfully we had adults in the dorms who would take us shopping and if a situation like that ever arose they would help us get what we needed. It was irritating though.

It's one of the main ingredient used for Crystal Meth. People were buying them in large quantities and cooking it to make the meth. So TPTB decided if they couldn't buy in bulk, it would cut down on the cooking and usage.

That's what I said (I thought). I understand why they did it, it's just annoying when you have a cold. At least Sudafed finally came out with an alternative. I love phenylephrine! It doesn't make me feel loopy like pseudophedrine does, it works great for me, and I don't have to sell my soul to buy it!

It's annoying as hell! Now we have people breaking into drug stores and taking them. It didn't fix a problem, just created another.

Thankfully we haven't had that problem in my town. I don't know if it's because Wal Mart is the largest pharmacy and the store is open 24 hours?

I do know it is a huge problem for the farmers in the area (and being a rural area there are a lot). I forget exactly what it is, but something that most farms use is also a common chemical in meth, and theft of it has been a huge problem.

I was carded once because I was with my mother who was buying a box of crackers at a wine store. I had already been in the store for over an hour for a wine tasting and uncarded, but omg stop better stop me before my mother walks out of there with a box of crackers!! :rotfl:

I hate phenylephrine!! I WANT MY SUDAFED! Is the regular stuff still behind the counter? The phenylephrine didn't even touch my symptoms. (Tho I was allowed to take it while pg, not sure about sudafed..)

And what the heck? Ibuprofen?! I buy the bottles of 300 at costco LOL

Two bottle of 500 each (1000 total) is the normal packaging for ibuprofen at Sam's!!

cold medicine is annoying.. I have never herd of being carded for lighters and glue though.

I did get carded for cigarettes a few years ago. I was 30 and very pregnant.. no, they weren't for me.. they were for hubby. We were at a gas station on the way to Niagara Falls and I even had my 12yo at the time son with me. I told the cashier I was flattered but I dont think I could of given birth at age 6.:scared:

You can still get pseudoephedrine, but it's behind the pharmacy counter and you have to show your ID to get it.
