Car wreck

DH just called and said he'd been rear-ended, but probably not injured and the car probably not totalled. He never remembers to get a police report. For anyone who has gone through this, can we get the other person's insurance to pay, or do we have to report it to ours and then have to pay more in premiums? Without a report, they decide each driver is "at least 51 percent at fault" so they can raise everyone's rates. Screwy math, but for some reason they are allowed to do it. I don't want to have to hire a lawyer, but I don't want to be stuck paying a deductible or higher premiums either.

So sorry to hear this. Glad hubby is ok though. I don't have any advice about the insurance thing, but I will give you a

Without a police report, that other person can just deny any responsbility.

Remind your husband to get a report next time ;)

You will probably have to do this if the other person denies.

I know here if you just need a copy you can go get one from the Police Station. You can also go file one if need be. I guess you need to talk with the other person and see how they want to handle it. I had a guy back into my car one day. He didn't want to report it to his insurance so I got estimates at a couple body shops. We went with the one I liked best and he went in and paid the bill. Good luck!
