Car seats for shuttle to ship

Car seats. I am going to do my best with my info so please forgive me if i don't have everything yet.

So we fly in the day before and getting picked up at the airport by our hotel (non-disney, don't know the name) then the next day getting picked up by disney and being taken to the ship. We have a 4 year old and 19month old, do we need to bring car seats for the shuttle rides or will they have them? And of course the ride back to the airport after the cruise.

Disney transportation to the ship from MCO is on buses. There are no seatbelts to secure the carseats. Not sure on what kind of shuttle you will have from the airport to the hotel.

Try calling the company that is picking you up tp see if they have car-seats.

You can't use car seats on the MCO buses (or public transportation buses) because it's against Florida law.

However, if the hotel is picking you up in a mini van you are required by law to have the kids in car seats. The hotel may refuse to transport you. I would call the hotel and speak to them to be sure they are OK without car seats or if perhaps they provide them.

I think you need to check your plans carefully... Disney will NOT pick you up at a non-Disney hotel, unless you mean you'll be back at MCO the next morning for pick-up.

As others suggested, DCL transfers will not use a car seat; if you bring one, it will be stowed under the bus for transport to the port. But hotel shuttles may require a seat, particularly for your younger child. At one point I researched car seat rules in FL and I think the 4 year old may not be required to use a seat -- but that was several years ago so rules may have changed.

4yo do not need car seats in Florida. DS had a blast riding around without a car seat although he couldn't see out the window.

4 years old–7 years old
Use a forward-facing child seat until they reach the weight and height limits recommended by the manufacturer.

Well that's confusing and conflicting.

316.613 Child restraint requirements.—
(1)(a) Every operator of a motor vehicle as defined in this section, while transporting a child in a motor vehicle operated on the roadways, streets, or highways of this state, shall, if the child is 5 years of age or younger, provide for protection of the child by properly using a crash-tested, federally approved child restraint device. For children aged through 3 years, such restraint device must be a separate carrier or a vehicle manufacturer’s integrated child seat. For children aged 4 through 5 years, a separate carrier, an integrated child seat, or a seat belt may be used.



First bolded line says a child restraint device is required. Last one says a seat belt may be used. I don't know that a regular seat belt counts as a child restraint device. They are designed for adults, which is why boosters are necessary for elementary school aged kids so that they are properly positioned.

Regardless of law, it is not safe for young children to ride without car seats in cars/vans (busses and shuttles without seatbelts excluded). Even at age 5, the adult belt will not fit the child and is unsafe. Laws and safety are not always in line.

I'm confused about the law now. Do 5 year olds need to have a car seat? We were going to bring a booster seat with us. Are those commonly used in Florida or not allowed?

The Florida law is this: 3 and under in a car seat. 4 and 5 can be in a car seat or a booster seat with a safety belt.

Kids are 8 and 6 and we use boosters at home so would like to have them for the car in florida as well

Don't think you can just "leave them in the terminal". You'd have to bring them aboard with you.

We are renting car seats for our boys. It's $14 a day, but worth it to us to not have to travel with them.

Nope, you can't leave anything in the terminal. There are 4 cruise ships (minimum 2 different ships) that use that terminal every week so stuff would get confusing if people started leaving items behind.

I don't mean just leave them in the terminal....wondering if they had some sort of place for baggage handling like the resorts do where you can leave things and pick up after the cruise or can have items shipped onto your next resort.

We rented seats last time, but to pay the rental company $120 just for seats that we can go into walmart when we arrive and pay $25 for....well I'll carry them onboard to save the $100!

We brought a carseat for our daughter to use on the plane and it fit nicely on the floor of our stateroom closet. It was a cosco scenera. Never got in the way and we tagged it and put it out with our luggage on the last night

The last time we took a booster seat for my DD, we had 1-way rentals both way through Budget and they kept our booster for us at the Budget office. I have no idea if they will still do this (DD is 11 and long out of boosters), but it seemed like it was common practice at the time. It might be worth calling the office to ask.
