I am pregnant with my third child, due April 30th. We have a Chrysler T&C. I want to get an infant carrier/stroller system. I have been thinking about the Chicco keyfit. Any advice, guidance reasons why or why not?
Thanks a bunch

Most women I know who bought a travel system ended up not loving the stroller once the carrier wasn't needed. I swear by the snap-n-go (had a double with my twins). So lightweight, folds flat, easy to use, and then you can buy a stroller that fits your needs (I always had at least 2 - a jogger for neighborhood walks, and a good folding umbrells - I loved my combi _ to keep in the van).

The best advice I can give- Get a car seat you like and get a stroller you like. You will use the stroller a lot longer then the carrier car seat. I would also make sure that the carrier seat has a higher weight and length limit. Pretty sure the one I had was 22 lbs and 27 inches. My peanuts outgrow them in length at 6 months and didnt hit 20 lbs till after they were 1.5. If I had a higher weight/ length seat I would not have had to replace mine as quickly.

We have the Keyfit Chicco 30, which goes up to 30 pounds and 33 inches. We *love* it. We did not get a stroller system, but used the stroller we had. They are compatible with lots of strollers.

We have a Chicco--not sure if it is keyfit or not--we bought it in 2007. But the base goes in super easy with the anchors in the seat. And the whole thing is just easy to use.

My son grew out of it at 5 months b/c he was a moose. (He was nearly 11 pounds at birth and has trekked a year ahead size wise since he was 1). His shoulders went past the highest slot--long baby!

But my daughter is 7 months and still riding in it.

I do agree--stroller will be used longer. I actually bought the system b/c I liked the stroller and the price point. I liked that it could lay flat like a bassinet and was much much cheaper than a Peg Perego.

Interesting... And sort of a bummer!

I found a travel system that I LOVE for about $250! It seems high end!

Is it really a bad idea to purchase a system?

I always checked consumer reports for the saftey ratings. With my oldest it was the most expensive and with my two younger ones the cheaper ones were best. There was a big difference in safety years ago in later years the top two or three were just as safe. I would choose the one with the best features or price out of those three. Over the years we found the simpler the better

The one thing I regretted buying during my first pregnancy was our travel system. The stroller was so bulky and heavy. We ended up buying a smaller stroller a year or two later.

This time around, I bought the infant carrier and then found a snap-n-go on Craig's List for only $25! We also bought a Maclaren stroller for when the baby is a bit older and we'll be able to use that stroller for years. It's so light and small!

No, not at all. Especially for your first baby. :) Just make sure the system stroller has all the key points you'll need when using it without the carseat. There are so many really good strollers out there these days that are compatible with multiple car seats as well.

We have the Chicco Key Fit 30 Travel system! We love the car seat! The stroller is great too, but I was killing it on the city sidewalks and ended getting a 'heavier-duty' stroller. I still have it for a backup! The Key Fit 30 is the highest rated car seat on consumer reports regarding safety!
