Car reservation name change

I have a problem. We made a reservation 6 months ago for a one day rental (non Florida) that would take us from one location to the airport. I placed the reservation in my husband's name since this is how we have always done things when both of us travel together. For reasons we can't control, he is unable to arrive the day we planned, so I will be picking the car up alone.

2 problems. #1) Will they allow me to pick up the car using a reservation under his name? My military ID has his name on it, so I can prove I am the spouse. The problem is the discount code. I could change the ressie to be in my name, but today the rate with the same code has tripled. My current ressie is for less than $100 and today's rate is $230. Problem #2) I need to get my husband added as a second driver. How in the world do I do this? He will be joining us later that day in a city about 3 hours away. The rental is a one way rental.

Help me please.

The fine print on the ressies usually say any changes will result in the current fee being applied. Does the ressie include an additional driver? Best to call the car rental company and ask them.

Have you tried to call the car rental agency? I had a similar problem last year. Booked a car in hubby's name originally and plans changed and he was unable to go so needed the car in my name. I sent an e-mail to customer service and was told to call and take care of it over the phone.

As far as adding him as a driver -- that might be tricky as they need a copy of his license for the rental contract -- at least the car rental agencies I've dealt with.

When you call about changing the name -- see what they say.

La2kw- I was sort of thinking as you. Any changes result in completely different reservation as far as rates, etc. Yes, there is a second driver on the reservation. It is free. As advised, I will call the company. Thanks.

Disney_Freak56- I have not called the company. I was hesitant about doing that as they don't always tell you the correct info, but then again, I was thinking I would have to wait till the counter to make the changes, which is the WRONG thing to do. I will call and get them to make the change over the phone if they are willing. If not, I will call again and if denied the 2nd time, I will just bite the bullet and shop around. I hope things work for me as they did for you. Thanks.

I called National and was able to change the name on the reservation with absolutely no hassle . Rate stayed the same, etc.

Glad to hear it worked out for you. When I sent my original e-mail -- it was sort of anonymous -- and those individuals who answer customer e-mails are never the ones you deal with on the phone anyhow. And until you provide them with your confirmation number -- it could be pretty difficult to track you down and I'm sure they have better things to do than check an e-mail address against thousands of rental reservations.
