Okay, you know how DH wrecked his car on the Tuesday before Thanksgiving?

We had to wait until the WEDNESDAY *after* Thanksgiving for the **** insurance person to get down to the body shop and approve the repair costs. That's 1 week of car rental waiting for the insurance to get off their butts and get working.

Then, the body shop apparently had to wait another week and a half to two weeks for parts to come in. 2 more weeks waiting for them to get off their butts and get to fixing the car. Excuse me? I've *never* had to wait for *any* car part more than 3 days. Why the **** is it taking *2 weeks* to get a part in?

Now it's all done except for painting, and they're telling DH that he has to wait until the Friday AFTER CHRISTMAS to get his car back?

WTH?? How long does it take to PAINT a car?

This is totally outrageous! Over a month of car rental just to get a car repaired. We've had cars in the shop all my life, and I've NEVER had to wait over a MONTH to get a car back! Even when our new car was creamed when I was in 3rd grade and it would have been totaled if it hadn't been new, we didn't have to wait any **** month.

I am absolutely FURIOUS at how SLOW these idiots are! They may make the car look pretty again, but this is OUTRAGEOUS!

DH is pouting, but otherwise taking this in stride. If it were my car, I'd be down at their office telling them this is totally unacceptable and get their bods in gear and fix the **** car!

We had to wait over 2 months a couple of years ago!!

And the insurance doesn't pay very much for a rental. Hope yours is better.
DH finally took my car to drive for the 2 months and I got the old "beater" car :(

Good luck to you.

I have had to wait that long in the past also. I know it is frustrating. :(

or not, but I'm so glad we do! Hit a deer two weeks ago when we were four hours from home. Had it towed to closest Ford dealer, which ended up being over thirty miles away. I did the math when I got home: I pay $15/every 6 months for towing (paid whole tow bill of $84), and $20/6mths for $25/day car rental. We'll be driving that dealership's rental car for six weeks at less than one day's total cost! I was also told it can take up to one week per $1000/damage, but, with the holidays, we're not expecting ours until the end of January. I'll put the miles on the rental, I don't care! Good luck with yours! Aren't cars fun?

DH didn't want to "waste money" by having rental on our insurance.

Now he's seeing *why* you put rental on the car insurance and says as soon as he can, he's adding it.

Now that's a "typical" husband reply if I ever heard one! Sometimes they just have to learn the hard way! Insurance agents don't push it because it's not a big $$ maker for them... Good luck, hang in there!

I think adding rental car insurance to my policy was dirt cheap. Maybe $20 for the whole year or something similar.

My DH does collision work for a living. Parts can be difficult to get sometimes. Especially for foreign cars. BUT - it does NOT take long to paint a car. In DH's shop they paint an average of 10 or more a day. Sounds like somebody's giving you a line. If you lived around here, you could have had a quality job - DH is very good at what he does - and he's FAST too. ;)

I have had a few body shop experiences and I have found 3-4 weeks to be about normal
