 Ok I have been trying to get a van rented for our family to rent to see St. Martin. We have done the excursions before and this time would like a slower pace and drive around the island.

The problem....I need a van to hold 6 or 7. I have been given the web site that takes you to the listing of all of the car places on the island from the boards here. When I called the gal on the phone books for all of the companies....and she tells me only Dollar and Best Deals Cars are at the Cruise piers....and she quotes me $106 for a one day van rental:crazy:

Can anyone tell me exactly what rental companies are at the Cruise ship pier currently and how do I get ahold of them. I feel like this gal is lying to me based on what all of you have said about what companies you have used. Help me please!

Hello.
As far as I know, there are more rental car companies at the pier.On the other hand,I don´t know,if they have vans.
You might want to check:www.stmaartencarrentalguide.com.
Hope that helps, maybe somebody else has better info.

Lots of greetings from Germany

The web site you posted is the site I have been trying to use....but one phone person is booking for all of those car companies and she said Best Deal and Dollar are the only car companies at the cruise ship area. Does anyone know....is this true??????

I know that, at least last year when I was there, there were more than 2 vendors in the car rental area. I think I remember about 5 different rental booths. Getting a minivan may be a problem, however, as the island cars are typically very small (to match the narrow roads). You may want to consider getting two compact cars as a cheaper option. It's probably not a good idea to negotiate the roads in a big car anyhow.

I suggest you run a google search for car rental in Phillipsburg at St. Martin and then make a few phone calls. If you go the 2 car route, you can probably just negotiate your rental at the dock right when you get off the boat. (They were all pushing immediate rentals to the boat passengers when we were there.)

in september my husband and i rented a small car (5 passenger) from St. Louis Car Rentals: stlcr@powerantilles.com. The owner's name is Marius.

Marius' father met us right off the pier and drove us to the car rental place (on the French side....he gave us quite a narrated tour on the way there)

The cost for the car, a car seat for a 4 year old, and govt. taxes was $43.20. At the end of the day, someone met us at the pier to pick the car back up. The car was a fairly new mazda, i believe, with A/C, power windows, etc.

I don't know if they have vans the size you are looking for, but it is worth a try.
