Car Rentals: On site vs MCO

So we will be spending 10 days at WDW this June. We have a son that will not be able to take the Disney busses to get to/from the parks. We are staying at BLT so we can walk to MK and should be ok taking the monorail to Epcot once or twice. We would like to take 1 day each at DHS and AK though and are planning on renting a car to do so. I know we are still 4+ months out and I will keep checking, but right now it looks like I could get a car at MCO for around $20 a day while the prices I'm getting for the Disney locations are more than double that. It's making me think about just renting at MCO and driving and keeping the rental the whole time. I'm just wondering is it typically that much cheaper to rent from the airport or is there a good chance that the onsite rentals will come down to the same range that I could get at MCO.

Typically the prices are closer with rentals at the airport averaging a little less than rentals at Disney.

Do check back often. Book the car for airport pickup for now. If you see something you like at Disney then you can book that and cancel the airport reservation.

For your son (or anyone else) staying off site, having a car is almost a must. Shuttles from off site resorts to Disney parks, if they exist at all, are much less convenient than Disney transportation from its own resorts.

We will all be on site, we just want a rental for a few days for AKL, DHS, and maybe a trip to DTD. I do have a reservation already set and will keep watching to see if it is worth it to change. Thanks for the info.

Others have found the opposite, that the taxes/fees for the airport reservations bring the total way over a non-airport location.

I've seen it both ways. It's hard to predict (impossible IMO) for one trip based on a different trip. Check your dates, check them often, don't lock yourself into anything that can't be cancelled...

Yes with renting from the airport you are forced to pay the added airport fee's that are charged. On site does not have added daily fee's like the airport has. If you are renting over or near the Easter holiday expect the prices to be inflated weather you are renting from MCO or onsite.

Thank you for the feedback. In the reservation I made, it shows the following charges listed in addition to the rate/sales tax. Is one of these the airport fee or would that NOT be included in their estimate?

CONCES FEE REC CHRG: 14.63
Surcharge: 18.00
CFC: 12.50
VLRF: 26.90

For Alamo, the only additional fee at MCO that is not present at the CCC is the "Customer Facility Charge" at $2.50/day.

At MCO there is a 10% surcharge called "Priv Fee Recov Chg". At the CCC the 10% fee is called "Landlord Concession Fee Recovery"

In my experience, picking up and dropping off at the airport always has the cheaper weekly/daily/hourly rate.
