Car Rentals in May

o.K. WE ARE 17 DAYS OUT AND THE PRICE ISN'T GETTING TO WHERE WE ARE HOPING FOR!!! We are at $178 for 8 days and 9 hour rental. Last year we paid $145. Do you think they will keep coming down or is this what I am going to be paying? I will keep trying and maybe do a priceline bid a few days before we leave. Seems so high:eek:

It might 'inch' down a bit, but I would not count on it. To me, that seems a decent price for a 9 day rental, $33 more than last year does not seem too bad.

What car rental agency and what codes did you use?

Thanks

Don't give up hope. Last minute car deals tend to pop up about a week out from your rental date.

My first res was for $477/7 days in a mid size, but as I continued to read and educate myself here, it has dropped steadily, (all these prices include taxes) to $366, then to $337, $325, $269.91, $246, $236, and finally.... drum roll please..... using 5007160 and ND8578ADT together, came down to:banana: $138.43! BTW, I did use the 7 days, plus 30 minutes, and it dropped like a stone.:cool1: Now, if anyone here has more suggestions, I'd love to hear them. I'd love to get into a little bigger car, but am probably too cheap. Just a lil worried about getting all the "stuff" into the car iniatially!:confused3 Really, how often to check, or switch promos? Oh, this is 4/30--5/7 too.:wizard:

I just tried those code and it is coming up invalid?? Did you write them down correctly? Thanks

Here is my deal -

Hotwire booking $15/day for 7 days - Economy car - May 16-22 - total with taxes and fees $148.:)

The company is Alamo.

That is fantastic! I have a friend with nearly the same dates and I've been watching hers too and emailed her last night that the price dropped again. Did you book for usage on the Emerald Aisle (are you a member). It's free to join still (I think) and hopefully you can upgrade to a larger car when you arrive.

Yes, I am also an Emerald club member, and may possibly be given an upgrade on arrival. :thumbsup2 Not sure how much lower this might go, or what else I might try, since this is now next week!! Does Michael have any suggestions?:surfweb: Thanks!:cloud9:

Thank you so much - now have my National EI reservation - midsize - down to $120. for a week at the end of May - dug out my old Continental One Pass card to match the discount.
Saving this reservation and one from Alamo for $113. and will watch to see if there are any more drops in either, then make a choice. Appreciate all the help everyone has been. :thumbsup2

Thanks to everyone for posting their codes and rates. Carrentalsaves.com is also a great resource for discounts.

I was able to get the National minivan discount when I booked yesterday morning before they cancelled it. Using the Contract ID 5007160 and the $35 coupon ND8578adt, I was able to get our Minivan from May 16-28 picking up and returning at MCO for $283.25! That is $83 cheaper than the "wild card" hot deal we originally booked through thrifty back in October!

Wow! Thanks for that code. That save me quite a bit on our current van rental for late May. Do we need anything special for this?

We're not going till Sept (9/9-9/19, so 11 full days), but May and Sept are comparable travel cost-wise. I currently have a standard at Enterprise for about 289 total. Hotwire is offering a full size for 260. Are you guys getting better rates than this in May for full size for 11 days? If not, should I grab the Hotwire car?

KS Disney Day - the contract ID 5007160 is actually for the Continental Airlines One Pass card. I have not used mine in yrs, but went to their site, and I am still registered. So, it works for me.

It is free to get the One Pass if you go to the Continental website, no sale is needed.

Frann wait.. Your trip is so far off that rates should go down. But look on the boards when your trip gets closer and look for discount codes.

Thanks! That's easy enough for the big savings!

Thanks to everyone in this board! For Alamo, I used Contract ID 5007160, Member ID (My Continental One Pass #), and Coupon ND8578ADT and scored an awesome deal.

5/17-5/23 Minivan $208.81 (total)

Thank you so much!
