We are planniing a trip that has us in Cali 14 to 16 days (we are thinking of tacking on another two days). I am trying to decide if we should just take a taxi to motel from LGB, then rent a car as needed. We will spend last three nights in san diego. Or should we just keep the car for the entire trip.

Any suggestions or experiences that anyone would like to share on this?

I'd try pricing it out both ways. You don't need one while at DLR unless you stay far away or stay somewhere off the bus routes. So depending on what else you are planning to do you might be able to go without a car for many days. Also consider the extra parking fees you may incur in the equation.
