we will be down at the end of September and are planning to do 6 days ( we have a 5 year old and a 16 month old and don't want to feel rushed). We don't know if we want to leave the park or stay the whole time, how hard is it to rent a car while we're down there? Does anyone know if there is service to the Grand Californian or are we better to just rent one before we leave.

There is service to pretty much everywhere. The shuttles can take you to/from your hotel if you need a break.

We rented last year and will do so again...as long as your comfoprable driving in traffic it is pretty easy. The flexibilty of having a vehicle is prett nice. We were able to get groceries and visit some restaurants that were a little farther flung.

...price line some of the rental companies have poor reviews online and you don't know what company you will get until you are already comitted
that being said we have freinds that did it and were more than happy. Last year we found that by a long stretch our best prices were at AMA (AAA). I had to actually go in though the rates on their site were higher.
