Am I being totally unrealistic or what? I'm looking for a rental car from (arrival) Nov. 28th (a.m.) till Dec. 10th (departure - 4 pm) and even with codes, the cheapest rate I can find for a 4-door COMPACT is in the $435 to $450 range.. (That's including all the fees and surcharges, etc.) :(

Is that about average for a two-week rental? Any chance that prices will go DOWN between now and then?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.. Thanks! :)

Right now that is about right. Keep checking, it is not impossible that they will go down.
Check all the codes at Mousesavers.com and check the rental sites too, often they have specials.

Thanks, Gail! Looks like I have to re-work the budget - AGAIN..

Should I go ahead and book NOW at that price and then wait for something better to come along?

I would book it now, you don't need to put a deposit on it, and if something better comes, cancel and rebook.
I do know that I am VERY happy I booked when I did, cause the rates on my specific rental just went UP 50.00. I am locked and confirmed at a pretty decent rate.

I agree with Gail, book it now. If you find something cheaper or decide not to rent you can always cancel it without a penalty.

I just have 3 pieces of advice:

1) If you find a cheaper rate make a NEW reservation and then cancel the original. Don't try to simply change your existing reservation. For some reasons on some websites this never seems to work right.

2) Check the rates for a mid-size or fullsize as well. Sometimes they aren't any/much more expensive. On occaission they may even be less expensive due to demand (although very unlikely for Fla).

3) Consider renting for less time. If you're staying onsite but need the car only for a few days (such as for a trip to US/IOA, etc.) then only rent for those days from a location at Disney. While the daily rate may be a little higher, the overall cost will be less. You can take a limo to/from the airport as well. Depending on how often you'll need the car, it may not pay to rent for two weeks.

I think you would benefit from using Hotwire or Priceline for this long a stay.

I plugged your dates into Hotwire and it quoted $382. still pretty high.

If I were you, I would reserve a car thru a car rental website, and then when the dates got closer, see about bidding on priceline.

herc.
