Car Rental? Uber usage?

We are only staying for 5 days and are planning to rent a car one day.
We have free transfers to an from airport with our package.
Looks like onsite rental is about $85 for a day.
Another enterprise that looks about 6 miles away is $40 a day.
Here generally enterprise will pick you up.. or has anyway used Uber too and from Aulani?
Is it reliable?
We were thinking maybe using it to Target or something in addition to maybe to pick up or come back from rental car place??
Or am I doing way to much to save $40

Uber is not as popular there. I personally would recommend renting a car the whole time! I mean, how are you going to explore a bit of Oahu?

You can pick up your car at the airport, stop at Target or Costco on the way, and have it the time you're there.

$37 a day for parking is a real deal breaker for us. We are only there for 5 days so we are hoping they resort will keep us mostly entertained with one day of off site activities. We are stretching our budget as it is to stay at Aulani.

There are a lot of new regulations for Uber/Lyft going into effect in January of 2017 which will probably decimate the uber/lyft system here. Basically, those drivers are going to have to be regulated by the city/county and pay registration fees, and a whole lot of red tape which will probably stop the occasional driver from driving. That said, you will probably still be able to get a uber in honolulu proper, but you're going to have a hard time getting a driver way out by Aulani.

We checked Uber while we were at Aulani and there were times no cars were in the vicinity and other times when it quoted 15 minutes. So I'd say it's not reliable in that area. If you only want a day rental, I'd probably just rent from the onsite Alamo for convenience. By the time you took a cab to the Enterprise, your savings would be less than $40.

You have no idea who is picking you up with uber vs a licensed company and driver who have been vetted properly. Too many horror stories

If enterprise will pick you up for free I might consider it but definitely not if you would have to pay a taxi to get there. Six miles away can be long and annoying if you get stuck in traffic. The time and effort might be too much hassle to save $40.

I LOVE Uber, but it would make less sense to have Uber drivers cruising around Ko Olina regularly. If you were in or right around Honolulu, the Uber possibilities are great. I will be interested/sad to see what happens with Uber and Lyft in the new year. I will never use a cab if I can help it, but Uber worked well for me on some specific occasions.
