Car Rental Tips?

We are travelling to DLR and Southern California this summer and are planning to rent a car. There are 7 of us all together in our group. 5 adults, one preschooler in a five point harness forward car seat, and an almost 1 year old in a rear facing car seat. We are thinking getting one large rental vehicle will be easiest so we don't lose each other on highways. We will either be flying into LAX or Santa Ana. We are also considering flying into or out of San Diego. What are your favorite car rental places that rent large vehicles? Do any of them rent car seats? Are they good car seats (we had a bad experience with a rental car seat a few years ago)? Any help is appreciated.

I always have the best luck with Costco. Prices seem to go down as the reservation date nears. Often dramatically. You get automatic free extra driver with Costco. You can cancel at any time (I believe). If I really cared about car seats, no way would I use a rental agency seat. I will tell you that we have often found renting two small cars is cheaper than renting a van or SUV (but keep in mind parking fees). You really won't need a car while at DL, so you might be best off not renting during that period.

The great thing about renting cars in the state of California is that extra driver fees are illegal!
