Hello!

I'm looking for car rental tips. I want an in terminal rental from MCO and I'm wondering what a good price is per day or all together for 10 days? How do you usually go about searching for the cheapest option? Right now I'm looking at about $303 CAD for 10 days for an in terminal rental. I was really hoping for something lower.

Take a look at the transportation board if you haven't already. There are threads for each month and posters often list promo codes that are very helpful.

From your countdown ticker, it looks like you are going late October? I would think you could get something less that that. I have a small SUV booked for 10 days starting December 17th (ie, peak time) for $323. Are you a Costco member? If do I'd strongly suggest checking out their site - if you haven't already. Also worth checking out the thread for October deals in the transportation board.

We have an 8 day rental with Alamo (pick up and drop off at MCO), standard size (which will be upgraded to a full size at the airport as Alamo at MCO does not have a full size aisle) for $161 US. That includes all taxes and fees.

Our 10 day rental (also a full size) for April/May is currently sitting at $202 USD for a full size with Alamo. Our SUV rental (8 days) for Christmas week is $262.

www.carrentalsavers.com is a good place to monitor prices. Check every single day.

Subscribe to the October car rental thread on these boards.....it is a great resource for monitoring prices and coupons/codes.

Do you bank with RBC and have one of their Visa's? We were able to book an 8 day rental for this past May via their travel site for $141 Canadian (full size with Dollar). So far no decent deals for our October trip but there is still plenty of time to watch and wait.

Expedia.ca can also offer some good rates from time to time. That same week in May that I booked through RBC, my boss was able to book a full size with Dollar via Expedia.ca for a similar price (and also in Canadian funds). If you collect Ebates, you can get cash back for car rentals through Expedia, too.

With the dollar so crappy, I recommend using a site like Expedia that can offer deals in Canadian dollars. We've rented through Dollar and Alamo - I highly recommend Alamo. They have a kiosk you can check your car out of, instead of going to the counter and dealing with the "upsells". We have a standard car booked for 10 days in September for $125.19 (plus taxes, etc. - total was $229.26 USD). I recommend booking at Standard car - Alamo doesn't actually have a "Standard" aisle, so you automatically get to pick something from the Full Size aisle. The car we last rented from Alamo was almost brand new, and was in perfect condition. The last time (ever) we rented from Dollar the car was all dinged up and dirty inside, and they refused to rent us our car unless we paid for their insurance because we couldn't prove we had the necessary insurance. It was after midnight so we had no options. I will always take a copy of my policy from now on.

We've booked in October through Costco. The price was higher than I expected but we needed one through Port Canaveral since we are going on a cruise and I was worried it would get higher. I don't know why October was so expensive.

Costco is a great option because you can book, no up front payment, then easily cancel if you find a better deal. Some of the other sites give you this option, some do not. Expedia and others often charge your credit car immediately on a reservation, but there is a no fee cancellation. I will often book with Costco or Expedia, then keep checking right up to the departure date in case a better deal pops up.
