Car Rental Tip?

We (DH, DD, DSIL, DGSs 3 and 3 mos, and I) will be at Disney the latter part of this month. Hooray! DD is so excited she may explode!

We won't have a car and will be attending Mass at Mary Queen of the Universe on Sunday, which I understand is about a $60 cab ride to and from. At that rate, I wonder if it wouldn't be more cost-effective to rent a car for a day, drive to the shrine and then do some grocery shopping for anything we need for the room. (I may or may not try to wrangle an outlet stop.)

Any hints on where to begin to look for the best way to do that and what we could expect to pay for a rental?

(I hope this isn't too repetitious a thread; I've been reading the board until I'm cross-eyed, and can't find anything about doing a short rental like this.)

TIA!

Mousesavers.com has advise on car rentals. You do not tip a car rental person for renting a car. They get a salary plus commissions on upselling (extra insurance, higher class car, and the like).

Since we have been driving on our last few trips, I have no idea what car rental rates are these days, BUT back when we were renting cars for our trips, I would always stay glued to the transportation board for code updates and who had the best rates for the time I am going.

We get a car even when we stay on property. I cam usually find a great deal through Thrifty. But, watch the pricing- it changes often and sometimes it can save you quite a bit to rebook and cancel the first reservation.

national car rental has onsite locations--so depending on where you are staying on disney property you can rent for only part of your stay. swan/dolphin and car care center by the magic kingdom, buena vista palace (hotel plaza blvd) and shades of green
Years ago, they would pick you up and drop you off at any disney hotel, not sure if that is still the case.
We are saving $400.00 on our rental by renting on disney property and returning one day early, instead of renting and returning at airport.

Dollar has a city special that we are using for just our first few days and they pick you up

I rented a car for one day (from National at the Car care center) and I think the total with taxes was about $67ish but it was a small car that fit 4 people (1 in a carseat) and you'd need something bigger.

Regardless you're going to have to have carseats so that could add to your total if you rent them.

They will pick you up at your resort, take you to the car care center, and then return you to your resort after you're finished with the car. I think most car rental agencies have shorter hours on Sundays, so make sure you can pick up and return within their window so you don't get charged more.

Try Hotwire.com or Priceline.com (name your own price). You can get a car for under $20/day plus tax. A minivan or SUV would obviously be more.
