Car Rental Shortage In Orlando?

How long do you think this will last? We are going to be there in mid-Jan. Will we be affected? Is there one company that has more inventory? Thanks

I was wondering this too.. I think it should be ok by then.. but I am not sure about this.. anyone else?

Actually I think the whole thing has been sort of blown out of proportion. I know it was a real issue for 10 days or so after the last storm, but Currently the only people I have seen getting stuck without cars are people that walk up to a rental counter without a reservation...it has driven up the cost of rental cars on short notice, but all companies are honoring lower rates booked in advance.... as long as you have a reservation I think you should be fine....and by January there should be no problem at all.

We rent all the time in Orlando and never have a problem

We there this past week and most rental companies had signs on their desks "no cars available"- other than a few people (read on another thread on Cdn board) people with reserved vehicles did get them.

In our experience, this has been ongoing...I have no idea why. But we fly to Orlando every other weekend and have had a problem on most of our trips since the hurricane. Last trip, we couldn't even get a rental car...the rates went from $99 per day for an economy to $199 by the time we left!! We just used Happy Limo for that one...trying L & M this weekend.

There was at least one report of Alamo refusing to honor reservations, I forget whether it was at Orlando or some other airport. One reason stated was "cancelling tourist reservations to give cars to emergency and relief workers". They wouldn't even allow someone arriving at the airport to check out a car from another of their locations such as a hotel.

If you stay on site you won't be that inconvenienced.

A Florida tourism board is trying to get $30 million dollars of state funds to advertise that Florida is open for tourist business again. Alamo's actions certainly don't help that.
