Hi all, I've never rented a car but would love to for our February trip since we are staying at Animal Kingdom, sometimes the bus rides can be VERY long. The LOWEST rates with tax are $360-$400! For a regular car! This sounds ridiculous to me. Is this how high they normally are or have they been very high recently??

If you are going during presidents week they might run that high.

That is pretty normal. For about the past 1-2 now years the rates are sky high until about 1 month or so before the trip and then they start dropping.

I have always booked my rental 5 to 6 months out and gotten good rates. I wonder if the companies are doing this now to keep folks from making a million different reservations in the six months building up to their trip.

Theyre that high, cuz you're so far out.

I booked mine at like $370 or something a few months ago, for this coming week.

It slowly kept dropping, and a couple weeks ago it finally landed at $159 - for 12 days.

We have a rate of about $250 for around New Year's. I keep looking, but now it's up to about $850. :earseek: Think we're keeping the original rental.

I agree with the others that the price will probably drop. We go in late Janauray and have always made reservations way in advance. The prices always drop. Last year I booked at $350 for 10 days for a intermediate with National, but ended up re-booking the day before we arrived - we ended up paying $149 for a full size with Alamo. Just keep an eye on the prices.

There is an incredible range of prices, especially during "peak" periods! I'm hoping for some serious price cuts, or we may just do the DME/taxi route.
Ain't no way I'm paying 1k for a rental! :scared1::scared1::scared1:

Try Budget using BCD x474200 (travelocity public code) and E-Coupon MUGZ029 $30 off. I just checked feb 18 - 25 and total for full size is $266.69 inc taxes after $30 coupon is applied when returning vehicle. A minivan is only $5.00 more.

beat me to it. I believe these are like the codes we used for two mini van rentals during Presidents week. Reserved them way back in the beginning of July. we just made sure to pay for it up front and it should come to $554 combined after we return them to budget. Our e-coupon was for $25 off. Boo:(

If i remember correctly, without the codes, the price was somewhere around $700 before taxes n fees... for ONE mini van from Thrifty/Dollar

I still plan on trying for an even better deal about a month or so from our departure.... just out of curiosity:-P I won't be too upset if we stick with the original reservation.

Car rental prices are not like airfares - they often drop the closer to your travel dates. Book when you see a price you like and keep checking. You can always cancel and rebook with no penalty.

Thank you! And thanks to everyone else for input, sounds like best rates come last minute most of the time but I will definitley try the coupon code.
