car rental questions

hiya
trying to price up the car hire situation. nearly definately going with usrentacar.co.uk cos theyre a lot cheaper than going direct but trying to decide which package to go for.
we're going to get a convertible (treated ourselves to an upgrade last time on our honeymoon and liked it too much!!) apparently the fuel tank holds about 60 litres. does anyone know roughly how much dollar would charge us for fuel when we get out there? trying to price up if it'd be cheaper to get the upgraded package or not (dollar normal rates already include 1 additional driver, so the only plus side to upgrading is the free tank of fuel.) i know that the rental companies charge more than the going rate for fuel, but does anyone know roughly how much this would work out as?

About 3 months ago there was a thread on another forum discussing how much rental co. charge for fuel if you dont take th platinum/gold. Majority said approx double, some quoting upto $7.50/gallon on their invoice.

I have just had a look on USrentacar for 3 weeks rental in Nov(Is that right?) quote was £465 or £507 gold. Works out at £42 extra. To fill the car yourself will probably cost around £25-30 ($50-60). If they charge you for a tank on collection It could be £50+($100+) working on figures quoted in that thread. I would be tempted to pay the £42 upfront and go with gold option. Although many take the car back full and are not charged Dollars rate, I have done this before no problem but others have said they had to pay Dollars price and could not get out of it.

Never go thru Dollar US or UK, its so expensive.
3 weeks rental as quoted above at £507 with USrentacar is £687.11 with Dollar.co.uk £180 more
Don't know what budget is like but Dollar are way too much.
