Car Rental Question

How far in advance do you all reserve your car? Our trip will be next August and I feel like I should just go ahead and reserve to cross another thing off my list. I was quoted $259 for a minivan for one week through Alamo. If a better discount comes along, would I be able to apply it?

You can reserve a car now and then cancel and re-do the reservation later if a better code comes out. I've done this several times with Avis, Hertz, Alamo, Budget... Just be sure to print a copy of your rental confirmation so you have a reservation reference number to access your original reservation to change or cancel it.

Thanks for your reply! Just booked through Alamo for $290 (minivan). Hopefully some good discounts will come around.

You can also try Priceline as your date gets closer. If they take your price, cancel the other ressie. If not, no harm done.

We just rented through Budget last week for a trip this coming week, and we have already canceled and rebooked.

I keep on looking for better rates. We went through Budget after being redirected there through Hotwire. The Hotwire BCD code for Budget is X747700 and gave us the best rates we could find.

Keep on looking and making reservations and who knows how low you can go!!!
