Car rental price drop

For anyone who has booked a rental car at an MCO car rental site, take heed: prices are on the way down in August. I originally booked with Budget for 330/wk total, and just rebooked using code found on Mousesavers website, and chopped the price down to 180. If you booked a car a few weeks/months ago, I suggest going to mousesavers, check out the codes, and rebook.

I need to book a car (any size will do) for the 2nd week in Dec and I am coming up with similar rates. I have never seen it this high! I am going in March and rates just as high, but luckily DH has enough Hertz points for a week rental.

It was $523 for my dates (8/4 - 8/14). I'll stick with my Dollar reservation of $222.

With Budget, how do you see the rate your code/coupon gets you? Are you reserving online? I keep seeing that the rate will not be applied until you are at the counter and have met all of the criteria. I fear getting to the counter and being charged full price. Am I missing a tip or trick here???

One more question...

What size car do you think I will need? There will be 4 of us traveling. 2 adults and 2 kids. We will have 2 suitcases, 2 carry-on size roller suitcases, 2 backpacks and 2 duffel bags. I HATE sitting low to the ground, so I was thinking I would just bite the bullet and go for a mini van. What would YOU reserve, if you were me under these circumstances?

i did a name your own price for 0ct 4-10 at $20 per day and it was accepted.

Did a Priceline name your own, and got a full size at $13 a day. My dates are 8/16-8/25. For ten days with fees included I paid $226.

When you name your own price, are you able to specify what car class you want? Also, are you getting the cars from national companies or the small, local companies? Also, are your car companies IN TERMINAL? I know you can often get a better deal if you take a shuttle, but I do NOT have any desire to do that.

you choose your car size yourself and they are all national companies in terminal.

I was able to specify that I was looking for a full size car, and Avis accepted my offer.
The rental agreement stated that the rental is in terminal, but I am unsure if that means the car is there and not have to take a shuttle to it, which is not a problem.
