Hi, I am new to this whole thing, we are doing our first DVC trip on May 1st until the 10th. We are looking to rent a car, variety of reasons it is needed. I guess my question is: Where is there a car rental agency near SSR? Also is there a company that will deliver? We normally go with Hertz but it does not show a location near SSR......so we are willing to take any of them...

Suggestions please!!!!!!!!!!111 Thanks in advance.

Kim

I am not sure about the DVC resorts - we just bought and have not stayed there yet.

Last year my DH and I stayed on site at POFQ and we called Alamo from our room and they came by in a van and took us to the rental car lot (by the Magic Kingdom). Maybe they have the same thing for DVC resorts.

Yes, these two companies will send a shuttle to you at SSR and I would guess all other DVCs. Worked fine after Christmas to us. We had not really planned on renting a car, but wanted to do offsite activities. Not really a cheap rental because we did not have reservations; plan on reserving online prior to leaving for Orlando next time.

Shuttle arrived at resort checkin right on time for both pickups. Smooth process, and we will do it again.

The two closest to SSR would be Avis at the Hilton and Dollar or Budget (I can never remember which) at the Grosvenor. I know the Avis location will send a courtesy shuttle to pick you up/return you.

If you are flying in, why not rent a car at the airport? National has its location right in the ramp at the airport. We usually walk across the street from our baggage pick up right to the National ramp and drive away to OKW in whatever Emerald Aisle car is availble and to our likeing. There are also rental sites near the Swan and Dolphin hotels on site, and there used to be one at the car care center too.

We have rented from Alamo, National, and Dollar. We were at SSR Christmas week and rented from Dollar at the Grosvenor for part of the trip and National for the other. We went to DTD marketplace and walked across the street to the Grosvenor and it was a very good experience. All the times we have rented Alamo or National we have done so at the Dolphin and it has been very nice also. None of them have ever pushed the extra insurance and I have never had more than one person in line ahead of me at those locations. We had previously always rented at the airport after getting our luggage and usually had a good experience except for the pushing the extra insurance. The last time however they only had one gate open to leave the airport for the Alamo/National rentals and it took us 2 1/2 hours from the time we got our luggage to when we left the garage. From now on unless the rate is really a lot less to rent at the airport we will be take ME to WDW and then rent a car at our convenience. The Dolphin and Grosvenor locations have more limited hours than the car care center so be aware of that. Check at mousesavers for discount coded and then check the rates for various locations. I think there is a Hertz location at one of the DTD hotels and the probably have a shuttle van that will pick you up. You generally need to give them some notice so they can fit you into the schedule. We did the last couple of rentals so that we had a car to go to the airport the last day so rented at Disney and returned it to the airport which worked really well. You should make an advance reservation as in my experience it will be cheaper than if you just go to the place and expect to rent a car. I found this out the year our flight was delayed and although my reservation was for $213 for the week since we did not get out of the airport until the next day (after midnight) they considered that it was a new rental and the charge was $1400. I fortunately checked my credit card on line when I got up and discovered that the amount was wrong and after several calls got it straightened out. To this day I don't know why I checked except that the girl at the booth ( it was an Emerald Aisle reservation) kept saying - oh you don't want to pay that much and kept re-entering the info before finally saying okay it's all set. It was only when we got to a motel that I realized she hadn't given me any paperwork showing numbers. I was reminded of it this year at the Dolphin as a couple in front of me was getting their paperwork straightened out having had the same thing happen to them. They had been delayed getting in and the desk was closed so they picked up the car the next morning and the rate was well over $1000 for the same rental they had the reservation for for just over $200. At the very least call the regualr number for the car company and get rates from them before you go to the rental counter.
