Car rental in St.Martin?????

Should we reserve a jeep before we get to St.Martin or will we be able to get one when we get off the ship in the morning???

We really want to explore the Island....Thanks for any tips.

I found Best Deal car rental and they offer a Jeep for $65 for the day???

I hope you can learn from our mistake We had a fantastic day in St. Martin despite our taxi hassels. The best way to go about getting a taxi is to take a right at the dock in St. Martin. You will see Avis and a few other taxi rental companies. That is the best way to go. We ended up haggeling with some locals and it ate up alot of precious beach time.

on our January cruise with another cruise line
we rented a jeep from more or so the locas than with a nationally recognized company anad although we had no problems with the vehicle or the locals I would go with either AVis or budget or Hertz, We had no problems and loved renting the jeep and travelling with the map in hand..

Go for the Jeep! We spent a week in St. Maarten a couple of years ago and we rented a yellow jeep for a couple of days - $65 sounds right (hey it is cheaper than an excursion and you are your own schedule and itinerary!)

My kids high point was the yellow jeep! And there is absolutely no better feeling than cruising in the Caribbean breeze with the sun beating down and the sea as your backdrop!

It is really worth it!

Should we reserve one now or wait till we get there??? Best Deal requires 20% down and they will have it ready when we step off the ship. I believe they are part of Avis or Budget????

Cruise-Critic board has lots of positive things to say about them???

hmmmmm What to do?? Guess I need to see how many ships are in port that day.

We rent a car on most islands, too.

Right at the end of the pier in St. Martin - just to the right, behind the government's "Welcome, etc." display is an auto rental area. I think we used Hertz, but there are other's represented - all within walking distance - actually closer than the taxi stands. Just make sure that the "best deal" isn't a taxi ride away. We usually have advance reservations and use AMEX to confirm - just cuts down on the paperwork for the day.
