Hi,
We want to rent a car to go to Legoland while on our Disney vacation. We are staying 9 days. Should we rent for the whole week, even though we will be onsite, or should we rent for two days. The drop off and pick up will eat time from our vacation. The two day price is about 1/2 to 1/3 of the price of a week. If we had a car, we could also shop for groceries because we are not on the dining plan? What do you all think? Is is easy to do drop off and pick up of a rental or should we keep it the whole week to save time? :confused3

Since your not on the dining plan, having the car would be a good option. There are tons of reasonable places to eat outside the walls of WDW. We picked a car while staying at AKV and it was really easy. They picked us up from our hotel. I rented from Budget which is near Downtown Disney inside a hotel. There was no wait. We returned it to the airport. You also have to factor in parking at the hotel. We are DVC properties and get free.parking. Im not sure if they do charge.

Since it is nearly 1/2 the price for only 2 days as opposed to the week, I think I would go with the week so you could go offsite to eat and shop as well! There is another world out there..;)

Drop off and pick up is easy and wont take that long. Rent from Alamo they have a location at the Dolphin and the Car Care Center. and they will come get you at your resort and take you to the rental location. Then when you are done they will take you back to your resort.

As PP said if you don't have the dinning plan you will save lots of $$$$ by having a rental car. In fact the amount you save by eating offsite will more than pay for the rental car. TRUST ME!!!!
So weather you have a car for a short time or the whole time it will be very benefical.
One other thing this past Jan we did and experiment. My DH took the car from Epcot to SSR while I took the bus. It took me 40 minutes to get to SSR. So using a rental car is faster than Disney transportation!!!!

Sign up for the Alamo Insider program. Its free and they offer their Insider members better car rates and higher coupon values!!!!

Thanks everyone. I think we will go for the whole week. I got a quote for $199(I'm not sure if that includes tax). I don't think I can do better than that. I am a newbie at renting in Disney.

Tracey I see you are not going for another 2 months. I would keep watching the rates. About 7-10 days before you leave check the rate again because you should be able to get it much cheaper than $199.

If you would like send me a PM when your trip gets closer and I will help find a good deal for you. :thumbsup2

Thanks. I already booked with Hotwire for a 9 day, full size car for $166.35 including tax. Is that better? Or will the rates go even lower? I think I can cancel with no penalty.
