Hi there,

We are flying into Lakeland (Direct Air)

I have a Hertz car booked for around $200 for a full size, but last year we only paid $130 or so for a full size for the same week.

I know there are many car rental places relatively close by, I wonder if we were to use a cab to get to one of those places, if the price is cheap enough, even with the cab fare, it still might be cheaper overall.

What have other people done?

The truth..

there aren't a lot of places nearby and they are generally "franchise" locations wihch means that you may not get some of the deals you got in Orlando. Plus this is not a big city with cabs just hanging around waiting.....

IMHO this is one of the risks of a smaller "marginal" airport.. other costs may be higher!

One way group shuttle from Lakeland to Disney resorts is $66 for the first passenger and $16 for each additional passenger. Private service is $96 for the first passenger and $21 for each additional passenger.

Your rental rate looks like a good deal. There are very few flights scheduled into Lakeland. Hertz is the only major rental agency at the airport. I wouldn't expect the kind of money losing, deep discount rates we can frequently snag at MCO available.

The local rental agencies might not even be open when your flight arrives or when your departing flight leaves. The airport location should match the airport hours, including any flight delays. A local location isn't likely to extend their operating hours if your flight is delayed.
