I remember reading a post about renting a car, dropping passengers off at port, taking the car to the rental agency and hopping a shuttle back to the port ... can anybody give me more details?

You are right. Our cruise in January, I dropped the family off at the cruise terminal, checking the luggage curbside. While they checked in, I took the car back to Budget and grabbed a shuttle back to the port. The shuttle drops you off across the street from the cruise terminal. I would say it took 20-30 minutes to get back. Just remember to bring you picture ID and cruise documants with you to get back into the terminal.

Did it last week. Dropped family & luggage off at terminal and went back to budget. Hopped on there shuttle & they took us back to the curbside terminal. We had a family that had all there luggage with them, so maybe that is why the shuttle went into the drop area.

The Porter told me on the way out that once the construction is finished in front of the terminal, the will be moving the drop-off/pickup to there. It is about 100 feet away from the terminal. The Porter said that Security is not really happy with allowing cars to pull right up by the terminal so they came up with this new solution. Should be done around August.

question: if you drop off your car @ Budget early, and have them shuttle you to the port ... what happens if the terminal isn't open yet? Will security tell the Budget shuttle driver to turn around & come back later? Or will he allow them to drop you off even if the terminal isn't officially open yet??

I would drop all your luggage & have only one of you return the rental car. Then you won't have any problems getting onto the next shuttle, just remember to have your photo-id with you to get into the terminal!!!

Did you all rent your car at Orlando airport and then drive it to Cocoa Beach/Port Canaveral? So I am thinking that you are returning it to Budget or Avis at a different place from where it was rented. Was that a hefty extra fee?

thanks for the info!

I just reserved our car with Budget for the way to the port and the way back, and there is no drop fee. With those of you that have used Budget - I want to make sure I'm using the right location - it's the one in Cocoa Beach on Astronaut Blvd, right?

Also, you say to drop off the family first then have one return the car to Budget and hop the shuttle... can the family members there check everyone in before the last member gets there? Or are they held up until the last party arrives?

family members can check themselves in - driver has to check in to pick up their own KTTW card once they get to the terminal.

NeedsNEscape: No extra fee for the one-way rental

coleland: Budgets address is 8401 Astronaut Blvd. They are wonderful, I left my laptop there on the way home & they shipped it back to me via UPS. SO THANKFULL!!!

The checkin process works like this: Your family member will check everyone in, make sure THEY have whatever credit card you want your charges billed, you can change it once on board we found out.

Once you arrive at the terminal, DO NOT FORGET YOU PICTURE ID or they will not let you, you go thru security & go up the escalators to the check-in area. Find your family members, then go to the same person who checked them in, you do not have to wait in the check-in line, they will verify who you are & give you your KTTW card :D
