We want to rent a car for one day while we are on our trip to drive to Universal. Who would you recommend within walking distance of the Tropicana Hotel with unlimited mileage and a decent rate? We don't want to pay for parking at the hotel either, so need to be able to drop it off around 9 or 10 pm.

Select Rent a Car is next door. Dollar, Hertz, Enterprise, Alamo, and Avis are all close enough to the south that I would check the prices at all of them

My issue with Select Car is that even though they are next door to the Tropicana which is a huge convenience, they are asking $50 for the day and I would have to pay the $15 parking fee at the Tropicana since they don't allow drop offs after 5.

Issue number 1, most Rental Locations near Disneyland only operate during normal business hours, so opening at 8 or 9 AM, you lose a lot of time trying to pick up the car and get the paperwork done. ANd don't get to USH until close to Noon in some cases.

And $50 for a one day rental seems about right, amazing that you can usually get a 2 day quote that is very close to a one day rental...

You just might want to look at the Anaheim Tour Company to take you to USH, or look at Uber/Lyft, that way you could get to USH early, and then visit the Hollywood and Highland for a hpur or two, then back to Disneyland. But remember that Children under 8 need a car/booster seat.

Thanks Darkbeer. Im not actually going, just my DS33, DDIL, and DS17. I believe they want to check out Venice Beach after as well. Although that wouldn't be my first choice for beach, but I'm not going. :)
I will check with Select Car what time they are open in the morning. Universal opens at 10 that day (Friday Jan 27) with Early Admission at 9. I'm thinking they would need to leave by 7:30, so be at the rental place by 7?

No Rental Car Company I know of in Anaheim opens before 8 AM, and even then, are known to be slow at first, usually short staffed.

And I would want to be on the road by 6:30 AM to get to Universal by 8'ish, park the car and long walk to the Security Check, similar to Disneyland, takes about 30 minutes just to do that.

So it seems like the best thing to do would be to pick up the car the day before.

I have a Chase CC and thru their portal, can get rates at Avis $20-30 per day. If you have a CC with benefits, I would start there.
